A British grandmother who had a brief holiday romance in Benidorm has launched a hunt for the man who swept her off her feet.
Katie Jones said the man she instantly "clicked" with is a 66-year-old named Steve from Leicester who looks like British actor Tim Roth.
They went paddling, met for drinks at a bar and shared a goodbye kiss, but Ms Jones, from Oswestry, Shropshire, didn’t see him again.
They met innocently while Ms Jones was on a 10-day trip to the Spanish seaside resort a few weeks ago, and she’s hoping to reconnect with him now that she’s back home, Leicestershire Live reports.
She was sitting by the sea reading a book about the Yukon, a rugged and wild territory in northern Canada, when Steve and his friends sat down near her on February 27.
Steve approached and asked her about the book.
Ms Jones, a volunteer for the RAF befriending elderly veterans, said: “First he just asked where the Yukon was.
"Then I told him I was reading the book because I was going there in August, and he said I was very brave to be going there on my own."
Steve told her he worked as a driver as they shared details about their lives and took in the scenery on the Costa Blanca.
Ms Jones said: “We were looking out to sea and he said didn’t the water look nice. I said yes. I told him, ‘It’s been ages since I had a paddle’, and he asked if I’d like to go for one.
“So we went down to the water and had a lovely time paddling.
“We’d only known each other about an hour but it didn’t feel like that.”
Later, Ms Jones went for a drink with Steve and his pals – a man called Clive and a blonde woman called Jo – at the bar.
Steve took down her phone number and left to go for dinner with his friends.
The following day, Ms Jones returned to the bar and spotted Steve and the others.
She said: “His friends left after a while and asked me to take care of him and we just talked and I felt like I’d known him for years.
“We just clicked. I’m an old lady and you don’t expect that sort of chemistry with someone else ever again.”
That night, Steve told her he had lost her phone number. She forgot to give it to him again before they parted ways for the last time.
Ms Jones said: “He walked me part of the way back to my hotel and I told him he should head back to his hotel because it was a long way away from mine.
"We kissed goodbye – just a peck – and I never saw him again.
“Every day I hoped I’d bump into him, but I didn’t.”
Ms Jones will be in Leicester next month for her volunteer work with the RAF, and she is hoping to meet Steve again to see if the magic is still there.
She said: “I would really love to see him again. It would be good to see him away from the sunshine and sangrias and if the connection is still there.
"I really anticipated seeing Steve again before I left Spain but I didn’t.”
Ms Jones is no stranger to bold moves.
At 48, she gave up her life in England and moved to the US, where she met a local man and got married.
They lived in Washington, DC, and Los Angeles, and then moved to Las Vegas in 1993 after an earthquake rocked California.
She opened a tea shop in Vegas, but suffered heartbreak when her husband was killed in a car crash.
She returned to England as a widow in 2005, eventually settling in Oswestry to be close to her daughter’s family.
