FIFTH place in the Premier League is likely to seal a place in the Champions League next season if Man City are hit with a European ban.

City are fighting a Uefa charge for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations with the governing body recommending they are hit a with a suspension.

ut the governing body have confirmed that four places in Europe's top competition will still be on offer to English clubs no matter what happens with City.

So if Pep Guardiola's side are barred from taking part in the 2020-21 season, the Premier League will still have a quartet in the competition.

And that means the battle for fifth place in the domestic game next season will likely see qualification for the Champions League.

How the European spots are allocated is a matter for individual associations, but it is almost certain they would shift the qualifying space down to fifth rather than make it the reward for either the FA Cup or Carabao Cup winners.

And with City fully expected to be in the top four of the Premier League next season having won the title for the past two years, it offers hope for other sides.

Arsenal finished fifth this season, with Manchester United in sixth – and both know they face a big challenge keeping up with the sides who finished in the Champions League spots this season.

FURIOUS Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny says the Europa League final should NOT be played in Baku afterHenrikh Mkhitaryan withdrew over safety fears.

French star Koscielny says Uefa should never award a major final to any country which has political issues with other nations.

Koscielny said: “I’m not very happy because we need to leave one player behind and he can’t play in the final.”

He added, in an interview with the BBC: “When one country has a political problem with another then Uefa shouldn’t give the final to that country.

“We want Mkhi with us because he is an important player for Arsenal.

“But we know about the problems and if he thinks he can’t be safe it’s better for him to stay here.

“This final is very far for the fans of both teams and it’s difficult and very expensive to travel to Baku.

“We will play the game but it’s not the final we dreamed of.”

ARSENAL are tracking £18million-rated Mario Hermoso this summer as Unai Emery looks for defensive reinforcements, according to reports.

The Gunners are desperate for a new centre-back, with doubts over the long-term future of Shkodran Mustafi and Spanish outlet Sport claim the Espanyol defender has been eyed as a replacement.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in Hermoso, but Real Madrid inserted a buy-back clause into his contract when he left in 2017 and can swoop to bring him back to the Bernabeu for just £6m.

ARSENAL legend Lukas Podolski has once again proven a cut above the rest after he opened his second kebab shop in Cologne.

The 33-year-old caused a sensation last year with the unveiling of his inaugural fast food joint with fans queuing for FIVE hours to get a bite.

The 130-cap German international has now expanded his Mangal Doner chain in Kalk, just over a year after thousands lined the streets to support the store's opening.

Back then, he had put on a show for those who crowded to get a taste of the kebab, posing with a knife and slicing off some meat to complete the late-night snack.

The footballer isn't a stranger to food stores – already owning an ice cream parlour in his hometown, as well as a clothes shop in Turkey.
