Michael van Gerwen said he was “happy to get back to winning ways” after he returned to the top of the Premier League table with a comprehensive victory over Gerwyn Price.
Defeat by James Wade and a draw with John Henderson had left the Dutchman under pressure, but after a tight start in Nottingham, he landed a 132 finish to give himself a 5-2 lead and then produced 13 and 14-dart legs to seal a fine 7-2 win against the Welshman.

The world champion now leads Rob Cross by virtue of legs won against the throw after ‘Voltage’ saw off 2014 champion Raymond Van Barneveld.
“The main thing was to get back to winning ways, so I’m happy with that even though the performance wasn’t fantastic,” said Van Gerwen, who has now won all 14 of his contests with Price.
“For some reason tonight both Gerwyn and myself struggled to play our best game which is a shame but I got better towards the end of the game and ended up winning comfortably.
“Of course I like to be top of the league and I know I have to work hard to stay there. I have to be at my best every week now to keep my record of topping the league phase every year since my debut season.”
