Meghan Markle threatening to overshadow Kate Middleton at the Chelsea Flower Show with her African garden

A RIVALRY has broken out between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton – in the garden department.

Until this weekend, the highlight of the Chelsea Flower show was to be the English garden co-designed by Kate, but an African patch created by a charity Meghan supports is threatening to steal the spotlight.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 37, has created a family-friendly classic garden, where children can toast marshmallows over an open fire and pick wild strawberries.

The Sunday Times revealed that a second garden, created by a charity supported by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, is to be unveiled this year, and it couldn’t be more different to Kate’s.

The organisation Camfed will show an African climate change garden, with a breeze-block school house and crops girls are taught to grow, such as peanuts and okra.

The garden is just a stone’s throw away from Kate’s patch, and features solar panels and a smart irrigation system.

The Sunday Times said Kensington Palace “presumably aware of the risk of headlines about ‘sisters-in-law at war’ has intervened to stop Meghan and Harry’s glamour eclipsing Kate’s pride and joy.”

Camfed has allegedly been told it can’t use a photo of Prince Harry surrounded by its young Zimbabwean alumni to promote the garden.

A source at Camfed is said to have told the publication: “It’s because the Duchess of Cambridge is co-designing a garden, so . . . we can’t use the photo. The palace is worried about mixed messaging.”

In contrast, Kate is pictured front and centre on the Royal Horticultural Society website in promotion for her garden.

Kensington Palace confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are extremely supportive of Camfed's work, which helps girls stay in education in rural Africa.

A spokeperson told the Sun Online: "There is absolutely no rivalry here.

"Meghan and Prince Harry haven't been involved with Camfed's garden design, nor do they have any official role within the organisation.

"They are in no way pitted against each other, in part because the Duchess of Cambridge's garden is the RHS garden and isn't judged."

Camfed is one of the many charities supported by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who frequently champion African causes.

On International Women’s Day on March 8, Meghan attended a panel on stage with Camfed’s Africa director Angeline Murimirwa, and promoted the sponsorship of girls.

The Camfed garden has been created in collaboration with London garden designer Jilayne Rickards and is expected to be showcased at the Eden Project in Cornwall following the show.

As the name suggests, the event is held in Chelsea, in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

The showground is transformed with a vast array of colourful flowers with plenty to see and do.

This year it will be taking place from Tuesday May 21 to Saturday May 25.

Tickets are available on the website.

The news follows the announcement that Meghan and Prince Harry will break away from Prince William and Kate Middleton to have a separate royal household and office.

The parents-to-be will instead base their official household office at Buckingham Palace, and will have a separate communications team to reflect this move.

Kensington Palace said: "The Queen has agreed to the creation of a new Household for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following their marriage in May last year.

“The Household, which will be created with the support of The Queen and The Prince of Wales, will be established in the spring.

“This long-planned move will ensure that permanent support arrangements for The Duke and Duchess's work are in place as they start their family and move to their official residence at Frogmore Cottage."

In more Royal Family news, Kate Middleton has been "making a real effort" with Meghan Markle and is keen to show there's "no bad feelings" after the feud rumours, a royal source has claimed.

Plus Meghan is ready to "extend the olive branch" to her estranged dad and half-sister after her baby is born, another insider has claimed.

And the heavily pregnant Duchess has been urged not to "put her baby at risk for the sake of fashion" by a doctor after stepping out in another pair of four-inch stilettos.

Meghan Markle could call her baby Gertrude, Marmaduke or Ursula if she takes inspiration from royal family tree, ancestry expert claims

WITH the arrival of a royal baby growing ever closer, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have surely sat down to discuss the name of their firstborn child.

And while Diana remains a firm favourite for a baby girl, research shows that there are a few old-fashioned names that could make a comeback in time for the new arrival.

Should the royal couple decide to take inspiration for their family trees, Gertrude, Marmaduke, Ursula and Hyacinthe all feature in their ancestry.

Now that Meghan is free of royal engagements and focusing on her birth, she might be musing over names like Mary, John and Elizabeth which also feature in the family history of the pair.

According to research by, Meghan has two relatives named Gertrude who she might want to take inspiration from – her maternal great-great-grandmother, and paternal great-grandmother.

Born in Georgia in 1882, her great-great-grandmother Gertrude Sadler was heavily involved in charitable causes in her community, and was involved with the Good Samaritan Aid Society.

And Gertrude M Merril, who was born in 1887 and died in 1938, is related to Meghan through her father, Thomas Markle.

Other distant relatives include Ursula for a girl, and the Duchess has several male relatives called Ralph if she needs an idea for a boys name.

Meghan may even take inspiration from her historical royal roots and name her baby Jane after Jane Seymour, the third wife of King Henry VIII who happens to be her second cousin 15 times removed.

Harry's family tree also includes unusual monikers including Lancelot, Boniface, Marmaduke and Hyacinthe.

Ancestry historian Russel James said: "When delving into someone's family tree, you never know what you're going to find – so it's always interesting to uncover names that would now be quite uncommon.

"The royal family have often been associated with traditional names such as George, Henry or Victoria, but with Meghan’s ancestry revealing names such as Ralph and Gertrude, predicting the name of the next royal baby remains a guessing game."

The baby is thought to be due at the end of April or in early May, and Diana remains the bookies favourite should the royal couple have a daughter.

In other royal news, take a peek inside Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal baby nursery, including gender-neutral grey paint and Soho House-inspired furniture.

And the Queen has now given Princes William and Harry permission to split their royal households permanently into two.

Plus, Meghan's friend George Clooney has come forward to defend the Duchess amid social media bullying, insisting 'she hasn't done anything wrong'.

Meghan Markle Gave Baby Shower Guests This Sweater: Does It Confirm She's Having a Boy?

While most of the details of Meghan Markle’s New York City baby shower have been shared, discussed, and quite honestly over-analyzed, a new detail has emerged about a rather revealing gift she gave to her guests. Does this gift confirm that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are having a boy?

Markle’s baby shower was a hot topic

When Markle came to New York City recently to spend time with friends and have an intimate baby shower, fans of the royals waited in anticipation to find out who attended, the venue, how the shower was decorated, and whether they played any of the traditional baby shower games.

Photos showed Markle and some of her friends at The Mark hotel, as well as the delivery of flowers and the arrival of gifts. Her makeup artist shared a peek at the cute baby-themed cookies at the party, and Gayle King, who was at the party, gave a tiny insight as to what the guests did.

baby shower details were pretty hazy

Fans tried to piece the information together the best they could, but there were a lot of details missing. King wouldn’t share much of the goings on at the party, but did remark on CBS This Morning: “She’s a very private person. I think she should decide what she wants to say about this.”

She did, however, share a tiny bit of a sweet activity that guests did at the shower, explaining: “I hope she won’t mind me sharing this because I’ve never seen anything like this at a baby shower. They had flower arranging. They brought in somebody to explain how to arrange flowers. We all each made an individual vase.”

floral arrangements were then donated to the organization Repeat Roses, to be
given to hospitals and care centers.

Any guesses whose baby shower we sent dozens of these to?

Meghan Markle’s baby shower guests received a sweet gift

While the day was all about Markle, that didn’t stop her from giving her guests a gift — and it turns out it just might reveal the baby’s gender as well!

Details of the sweater she gave her guests, from Lingua Franca, were shared on the company’s Instagram — a photo of the blue sweater with orange stitching reading “baby, baby, baby.” The caption asked: “Any guesses whose baby shower we sent dozens of these to?”

Lingua Franca confirmed that the sweaters were custom-made for Markle and her guests and were sent to The Mark hotel, with a spokesperson telling PEOPLE: “We hope she received them, and we hope she loved them.”

Does the sweater confirm Markle is having a
baby boy?

That one article of clothing, it seems, has ignited some chatter among those fans speculating whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have a boy or a girl. A source told Us Weekly that the couple know the sex of the baby and that Markle told her friends at the baby shower… they’re reportedly having a boy!

If that rumor is true, it seems that the Lingua Franca sweaters might confirm Baby Sussex is a boy, given the garment’s blue hue.

Meghan Markle Can’t Stop Breaking This Royal Style Rule

When it comes to royal style, Meghan Markle must abide by the queen’s rules, especially when representing the family on engagements and tours. And, while the Duchess of Sussex has strayed from the monarchy’s dress code a handful of times, she (for the most part) tends to follow protocol — except when it comes to one royal style rule.

The royal style rule Meghan Markle always breaks

Meghan Markle isn’t the only royal family member to stray from the queen’s fashion guidelines. However, we almost never see Kate Middleton and other royal women break the rule Meghan Markle tends to ignore.

In the royal family, women can’t remove their coats in public. That means if it’s cold outside and a royal woman arrives at a royal engagement wearing a coat, she must keep the coat on once inside. The reason for this royal fashion rule is quite bizarre and sexist (which might explain why feminist Meghan Markle opts out of the strict protocol). According to reports, the queen feels removing outerwear in public is like undressing and, therefore, “unladylike.” Unlike the women, royal men are allowed to remove their coats once inside.

While the Duchess of Sussex has kept her coat on before — that’s especially true for her early royal events, before she was officially married into the royal family — we’ve noticed that she recently started taking her coats or jackets off indoors. For example, during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal tour of Morrocco, Meghan Markle wore a black and white striped sweater with an army green jacket. She also stepped out wearing just the sweater, which means she — gasp! — removed her jacket.

Earlier this month, the duchess arrived in Bristol, England for a visit to One25. She arrived in a wool coat, but once inside, she removed her outwear and revealed a floral dress, and green suede boots. And, while visiting Smart Works — an organization that provides professional clothing and job interview training for women in need —  in January, she arrived in a black dress with a camel-colored coat. Once inside, she removed her coat as she helped women shop for potential interview garments.

That said, the Duchess of Sussex sometimes abides by the rules (probably depending on indoor temperature) and sometimes keeps her coat on. While visiting Feeding Birkenhead citizens’ supermarket in January, Meghan Markle stepped out in a purple dress with eye-catching red pumps and a matching red coat. She kept her coat on as she and Prince Harry toured the indoor facility.

Royal style rules Meghan Markle doesn’t always follow

Taking off her outwear — or undressing in public, as the queen sees it — isn’t the only royal fashion rule Meghan Markle has broken. In addition, she will occasionally turn a blind eye to other royal protocol. For example, royal women can’t show their bare legs (and must wear pantyhose instead), but Meghan Markle frequently steps out without tights. Off-the-shoulder looks are also off-limits, but the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in an over-the-shoulder pink dress for the 2018 Trooping the Color festivities.

Meghan Markle has infuriated Prince William by spending thousands and acting like a celebrity diva, she needs to start behaving like a Duchess

Princess Diana’s butler Paul Burrell revealed why the Meghan’s A-list bash makes her look more like Kim Kardashian than a duchess…and she needs to knuckle down and toe the royal line.

I think Prince William will be angered by all of Meghan's lavish extravagance this week and the fact her baby shower looked so 'celebrity' rather than 'royal'.

He has spent years working with the press to give them what they want but also get what he wants in return – privacy.

Meghan is doing exactly what he doesn't – courting attention all for her and her baby.

Of course, a baby shower isn't a British tradition it’s an American one so even though Kate had one for George, it was very private and contained affair.

I think William as well as Kate Middleton will be totally bewildered by why Meghan is doing all this, as there’s no excuse for over-indulgence or excess and that’s what it seems to me.

Although William mixes with A-list celebrities, he doesn’t take them home with him, they aren’t his friends, they are people he works with.

The celebrity world in which Meghan was submerged seems to be where all her friends are, and that can only spell disaster.

Meghan knows to project herself, so every time you see her she is holding her baby bump, she is presenting herself in a certain manner, she is wearing designer clothes.

I can see it all unfolding the way Meghan has planned it.

The lines are getting blurred between celebrity and royal. There is a clear line between the two, and Meghan doesn’t know the difference.

The baby shower was obviously arranged to be in the spotlight. Why would you invite a CBS anchor to your event if it was private?

The Queen has always said: “We are not celebrities, to be royal is something very different.”

You will not see antics like this from the Cambridge family, there is no way.

They are so British, they are so well-behaved. Dare I say they are so well-behaved they are not as sparkly or lively or vivacious as Meghan.

And the Cambridges believe the key is to not let people in. It goes back to that old saying that the Queen said “don’t let daylight shine on magic” and that’s William’s mantra too.

But Meghan will have to tow the party line if she is to last.

She has to learn respect for William and Kate and she’ll have to curtsey to Kate as the future Queen and be seen to do it in public.

She will need to reign it in and stay safe behind closed doors. We don’t want to see Meghan every single day in the newspapers and on TV.

We don’t see Kate every day. We see them now and then. You can’t spoil what is 1,000 years of royal history.

She may say she doesn’t have to toe the line, but she has a royal title now and you have to give up a lot to be a member of the royal family.

She can’t have her cake and eat it.

I think we all have to wait with bated breath and watch the way this one is going to progress.

It is certainly a fiery, tempestuous comet streaking through the royal family.

Meghan will need to settle down to fit in with the royal family as everything has been such a rush.

It’s as though she’s cramming her life into the next three years.

It’s incredible to think she’s entered the royal family, became a royal wife, became a royal mother and will have a baby within a year.

We are on the fast-track here. I think everything will unfold very quickly with Meghan and we will see her dazed by it.

The royals aren’t fast. They are slow, they take their time.

Look at William and Kate. They are considered, they are measured, they are much simpler in lots of ways.

The two different families, the Sussex and the Cambridges, are drifting further and further apart, and that may be a good thing, because Kate and William have to remain spotless.

They have never put a foot wrong. Kate is an exemplary example of a queen in waiting and that’s what she has to be in our eyes.

She can’t get involved in all of this.

I’m glad she didn’t go to New York because if she had it would have reflected on her too.

And again, why was there no family at the baby shower? Why wasn’t her mother there? It all seems very odd to me.

Prince William tries to keep his family out of the spotlight, so the fact Meghan’s baby shower was so flaunted will be frustrating for him, and it is causing a rift in the family.

I think you are now seeing the fall out of what has been happening in previous months.

William has been saying to her brother “are you sure about this? Be careful.” He is looking out for his younger brother and he is concerned about him, and with due cause.

Harry is head over heels in love, and as he says: “What Meghan wants Meghan gets”.

He is not listening to anyone, he can be a little petulant. That’s who is he. William is not, he is considered, he is much easier to speak to and get along with.

There is a clear line between the being a celebrity and being a royal, and Meghan doesn’t know the difference.

Harry is just more complicated. And that could be because Harry didn’t understand the passing of his mum at the time because he was too young, and it could all have stemmed from them.

Diana too let the press into aspects of her life, and it didn’t end well.

Meghan is doing it a different way though, through television and visuals.

When she was in New York, was she looking a little bewildered outside the hotel waiting for a friend? No.

It was giving time for the paps to take more pictures. A spectacle for the media.

William and Kate have gone skiing with the kids and they are much better off for it.

The best thing they can be done is to be seen on the slopes with the kids having a family vacation like Diana did, with no interaction with the press.

To see William and Kate on the ski slopes with their children will complete the picture and tell a thousand stories.

It will give you two sides to the story. The comparison between the Sussexes and the Cambridges is stark.

One royal is jet-setting on a private jet to New York and having a lavish time, and the other couple are having family time and embracing what matters most.

This country is going through a very difficult time at the moment. There are people in our country who are suffering, as she knows.

We don’t want to see royals behaving badly.

The guests of the baby shower did flower arranging at the event, with bunches being donated to charityWhat Meghan is doing is handing every ammunition to shoot her down and she’s not helping herself.

She donated her baby shower flower arrangements to a charity…well, who wants second hand flowers that have been used and falling to bits?

The baby shower cost thousands, wouldn’t that money have been better off donated to the Grenfell projects on behalf of Meghan’s new baby?

I don’t think you can support charities and be there on the factory floor with people who are suffering one minute and then elevated into the echelons of celebrity world the next.

I think people don’t like it she’s not making herself any friends and there will be a backlash.

I think there are more surprises to come where Meghan is concerned and she will buck against royal tradition.

With the baby coming, she’s got the ideal platform to do this. She’s going to do it Meghan’s way and not the royal way.

Meghan and Harry will visit Morocco for a two-day visit on behalf of the British government this weekend.

The couple currently rent a £2.5million countryside bolthole in Great Tew, but are looking to find a new home in the area.

We previously shared inside Meghan and Harry’s new family home at Frogmore House which boasts 10 bedrooms and 35 acres.

How Does Meghan Markle Wake Up So Early and Is It Healthy?

Meghan Markle is definitely an early bird. She wakes up at 4:30 am to start her day, which provides a packed schedule for the new Duchess of Sussex. Most of us can’t imagine getting up at 4:30 am every day, but apparently, this is something Markle has done since childhood as the habit comes from her mother.

But how does Meghan Markle wake up so early (and still look that refreshed)? Is it healthy to rise before the sun each morning? Here’s what we know.

Meghan Markle doesn’t rely on coffee to jumpstart her mornings

Unlike most Americans, Meghan Markle doesn’t reach for that morning cup of a coffee to get her day going. Before her pregnancy, Markle would occasionally partake in a small cup of coffee or other source of caffeine. Since she became pregnant, rumors state Meghan Markle has given up caffeine completely.

Markle uses music, food, and yoga to get her day started

Instead of caffeine, Markle uses an ultra-healthy wake-up routine to bring her energy. When she rises at 4:30 am it’s to do yoga, which is something her mother installed into her routine while Markle was growing up. The Duchess of Sussex is even commissioning a new yoga studio to be built into her and Prince Harry’s new home!

During and after her morning yoga routine, Meghan Markle listens to music. Sources close to her even claim that she has a special “wake up playlist” that she loves to start her day off with.

The final pick-me-up is an ultra-healthy breakfast. Sources state that Meghan Markle loves oatmeal and acacia berries, although she does enjoy splurging on an omelet once in a while.

Is waking up that early healthy?

Most people may need to suppress a shiver at the thought of waking before five every morning, but what does science have to say about the practice? Is it healthy?

Sleep Advisor says that waking up early is great for you physically, because it typically allows you to eat a more balanced breakfast. They also say it’s good for your skin, improves concentration, enhances productivity, and allows you a better night’s rest. So, yes, waking up early is healthy!

Is doing yoga that early in the morning healthy?

It might be healthy to wake up early in the morning, but what about waking up that early to do morning yoga? Yoga can be both relaxing and mentally freeing, but any practitioner will tell you it can also be physically straining at times as you push all of your physical boundaries in a gentle way. Is that type of physical activity healthy so early in the morning?

Do You Yoga is a popular yoga program, and they had quite a few benefits to tout about starting your morning out early with a yoga session. According to them, an early morning yoga program can help you to better focus, increase energy levels, and decrease overall stress levels. As a major added bonus, it also burns off extra calories before they’re even consumed, and helps to tone all your major muscle groups.

Meghan Markle has the healthy routine we all need

Apparently, the Duchess of Sussex is on to something. All the experts agree that her morning routine is incredibly healthy – and, honestly, we should all strive to be as devoted to our health as she appears to be. From her early morning yoga to boost energy and decrease stress, to her ultra-healthy breakfast that gives her body fuel for the day ahead, Markle’s routine has everything.

Fans can’t help but wonder, of course, how the new royal baby will effect her routine. Will she still wake up at 4:30 am when she’s been up at night with a newborn? Will she still find time to make an ultra-healthy breakfast when trying to make a bottle? With a staff on hand to help, Meghan Markle just may be able to pull it off.

The entire world took a collective gasp on May 19th, 2018, when Meghan Markle, soon to be Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, stepped out of her car in a dress fit for a princess. The beautifully cut gown featured 3/4 length sleeves, a boat neck, and a short train. The veil took center stage, flowing approximately 16 feet behind Meghan and embroidered with the flowers of all the commonwealth countries plus the state of California. Brides-to-be immediately began copying the design by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, opting for clean lines and a royal look.

Meghan’s messy bun

Just like with her clothing choices, Meghan has created a fashion frenzy with her go-to hairstyle, the messy bun. Typically parted in the center and loosely pulled back, Meghan leaves a few face-framing layers for added effect. The end result is casually elegant, perfect for daytime or evening engagements. The messy bun is so convenient and suits Meghan’s style so perfectly that she even chose to wear it for her wedding day. Since then people all over have been wearing their hair in the “Meghan Markle messy bun style”.

Sustainable fashion

Meghan Markle is famously a fan of sustainable fashion, which has been gaining in popularity ever since she married into the British royal family. Most of her favorite brands are ethical and eco-friendly, and she chooses classic pieces that have a timeless effect and can be worn many times. In recent months, Meghan has inspired many royal fans to do exactly the same!

Meghan also enjoys simple dresses

For many events that she has attended, Meghan has chosen to wear simple dresses in neutral colors. She recently wore a dress by the brand “Black Halo”, and the design flew off the racks within hours! The dark green dress that Meghan chose for her engagement interview had a similar effect, as the look was simple yet glamorous at the same time.

Trendy jewelry

Of course, the jewelry that Meghan chooses to accessorize with has just as much impact as her clothing does! Meghan’s jewelry never fails to disappoint, whether it comes from her own collection, or if it is a piece that is borrowed from the royal vault. She has worn several pair of “climber” earrings, a look that perfectly compliments her amazing style. Meghan is also a fan of small, understated pieces, such as a stunning pair of diamond and pearl earrings that were gifted to her by Queen Elizabeth II. Her breathtaking, three-stone engagement ring has inspired many engaged couples to choose this style, as it’s ease and classic beauty speaks for itself.

No matter what Meghan chooses to wear, she always manages to pull off the look beautifully! Her personal style is nothing less than spectacular, whether it be a neutral skirt, a flowing dress, or wide-cut pants with a classic button down shirt. Meghan’s timeless style and ethical beliefs are an inspiration to fans around the world, and the Duchess of Sussex continues to make jaws drop every time she steps out in a new outfit. Looks like the “Meghan Markle” effect is here to stay!

The Real Reason Meghan Markle Earned the Nickname "Duchess Difficult"

There’s a lot of conflicting information out there about Meghan Markle. Is she really the sweet, caring, giving human being that her friends say she is? Or is she snobbish, controlling, and desperate to distance herself and Prince Harry from the rest of the royal family?

The truth most likely lies somewhere in between – for all
appearances, Meghan Markle seems like a good person who’s been thrust into a
difficult situation. She may have been a notable actress before and does have some
experience with fame, but it’s nothing like the media mania she’s dealing with
now. The constant scrutiny is enough to make even the sweetest person act out.

That’s probably why the Duchess of Sussex is insistent upon guarding
the very small sliver
of privacy she has from the public eye. But behind closed doors, what do
people really think about Meghan Markle?

The Duchess of Sussex earned this unflattering nickname

Nicknames in the royal family are surprisingly common. Meghan Markle called Prince Harry, “my love” at an event. Kate Middleton has been overheard calling her kids “poppet” on more than one occasion. Even the Duke of Edinburgh has a special nickname for Queen Elizabeth, his wife of 70 years. He sweetly calls her “Cabbage.”

However, not all nicknames are positive. Remember back
before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge got married when all the tabloids were
calling her “Waity Kaite” while she patiently waited for Prince William to pop
the question? So rude.

Now Meghan Markle earned herself an insulting nickname of
her own. Her alleged attitude with royal staff has some people calling her “Duchess

Is Meghan Markle rude to the royal staff?

According to Vanity
Fair, the nickname was bestowed upon the Duchess by her staff thanks to
some very early morning texts and emails that were obnoxiously enthusiastic. But
there’s conflicting information on the matter – some sources claim her staff
loves her.

Still, the personnel changes at the Palace are part of the reason Meghan Markle earned this unfortunate title. “The departure of the unnamed blonde who has been guarding the Duchess of Sussex since her marriage to Prince Harry has once again sent royal tongues wagging that life in the court of Meghan is trickier than first thought,” The Telegraph reported. And that was just one of several notable departures of the staff. If everyone loves Meghan Markle so much, why aren’t they working for her anymore?

Does the royal family dislike Meghan Markle?

The rumors of a feud between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are swirling, and they’re not helping to improve the public’s perception of the Duchess of Sussex. There’s the infamous story about the time Meghan Markle made a hormonal Kate Middleton cry right before her wedding.

But it’s possible that Markle likes Middleton just fine without wanting to be her best friend. It’s clear Prince Charles has an affection for her, and Queen Elizabeth accepted her into the fold by breaking more than one royal rule just for her. Obviously, Prince Harry loves her too.

If anyone is calling Meghan Markle by the name “Duchess Difficult,” it’s most likely more out of jealousy than anything else.  There’s no reason to believe she’s anything but perfectly kind and reasonable with her staff.

Meghan Markle & Serena Williams Kept The Royal Baby Celebration Going In NYC

Meghan Markle may have traded in the U.S. for the U.K. when she married Prince Harry, but the Duchess of Sussex hasn’t abandoned her American pals. During a secret trip to New York City for a baby shower, Markle went to dinner with Serena Williams and friends on Tuesday, Feb. 19. News broke on earlier that day that Markle had come to New York City on Friday and was having an intimate baby shower thrown by her friends from this side of the pond. And following the afternoon celebration for the royal baby, Markle apparently decided to keep the party going with a swanky dinner, Williams by her side.

According to PEOPLE, Markle was spotted meeting up with tennis pro Williams, Jessica Mulroney, and Markus Anderson at Ralph Lauren’s restaurant The Polo Bar. As The Independent reported, Markle and Williams have been friends since meeting at the 2010 Super Bowl before the Duchess was even an actor on Suits. The pair have maintained a close relationship for nearly a decade. So, of course, Williams attended the royal wedding back in May 2018 and was reportedly there for Markle’s American baby shower on Tuesday. After the festivities, it seems that they decided to prolong their quality time even further with a dinner in New York City.

Although Williams is quite famous in her own right, with a record number of Grand Slam titles under her belt, her friendship with Markle does provide some insight on the highly-protected royal. For instance, Williams tweeted her support of Markle’s charitable cookbook Together, writing, "I could not be more excited about it and proud of you." Meanwhile, Williams’ clothing line also released a "royal" hoodie that certainly seemed inspired by her pal. And Markle reciprocated the fashion love when she wore a blazer from Williams’ clothing line while on a royal tour in Australia with Prince Harry.

They’ve also supported one another in athletic endeavors. Markle attended Wimbledon 2018 with her sister-in-law Kate Middleton to cheer on Williams during her match against Germany’s Angelique Kerber. And Williams and husband Alexis Ohanian joined Markle at a polo match in England to support Prince Harry and Prince William last June. Days after her disagreement with an official at the U.S. Open in the fall, Glamour reported how Williams spoke to Australia’s The Sunday Project about her friendship with Markle. "We were actually just texting each other this morning," Williams said. "We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other right a lot recently."

Although baby showers aren’t commonplace for the royal family or for expectant British mothers in general, the American Markle embraced this celebratory tradition with her friends on Tuesday, according to Harper’s BAZAAR. Along with dinner mates Williams and Mulroney, other famous female pals who were in attendance were Abigail Spencer and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Reportedly, Tuesday’s gathering won’t be the only baby shower for the princess. Harper’s BAZAAR noted that royal contributor Omid Scobie has claimed that Markle will have a second baby shower in the U.K. As Scobie tweeted on Tuesday, this "smaller gathering" will reportedly occur after her and Prince Harry’s trip to Morocco from Feb. 23 to Feb. 25.

As she’s seven months pregnant, Markle’s airplane travel most likely will be coming to an end soon. So this was probably her last trip to her home country before she gives birth. And thanks to good friends like Williams, she was able to celebrate this exciting life moment surrounded by people who love her during this trip to America.

Meghan Markle wanted to be 'Diana 2.0,' royal biographer claims

Meghan Markle and Princess Diana

Meghan Markle reportedly wanted to be "Diana 2.0," but it backfired — and now she's simply "Meghan 1.0," the late Princess Diana's biographer claims.

Andrew Morton claims that the Duchess of Sussex's post-royal wedding narrative is an uncanny parallel to that of Prince Harry's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

“When she was a teenager Meghan talked one day about being ‘Diana 2.0’ but for now she is more accurately described as Meghan 1.0," Morton wrote in a column for The Telegraph on Saturday, adding, "Just as Meghan has quickly morphed from Duchess Dazzling to Duchess Difficult, so in a matter of months Princess Diana was transformed from fairytale princess to a ‘fiend and a monster.’"

Morton pointed out the glee with which the press reported on Markle's bodyguard and assistant quit after mere months working for the Duchess.

“She was blamed for what was gleefully described as ‘malice at the palace,’ the departure in quick succession of many of Prince Charles’s long-serving staff including his private secretary, valet and Scotland Yard bodyguard,” Morton wrote of Diana in comparison with Markle.

Morton also claims that neither Markle nor Diana were prepared for life as royal, and all the scrutiny that comes with it — from both the public and the palace itself.

"Though Meghan and Diana were from totally different backgrounds, generations and upbringing, neither were remotely prepared for their royal lives that lay ahead. Meghan was red-carpet, not royal family-ready," Morton writes, adding that paparazzi pursued Diana much more aggressively. Morton claims that Prince Harry and Prince William have each used more stringent privacy laws to protect their wives from the prying eyes and paparazzi lenses than their parents faced.

“Meghan asked the Press Office to deny the drift of negative stories – but she was confronted with the age-old palace argument that if they denied one they have to deny them all,” Morton noted of Markle's dealings with reports about her life, and especially about rumors of a feud with Kate Middleton.

Meghan, like Diana, was speculated to have had friends go to the press to counter negative stories she believed were planted by her estranged father, Thomas Markle, and half-sister Samantha Markle, culminating in Thomas' publication of a private letter from Meghan begging him to ease off on the media interviews.

Both Meghan and Diana also reportedly fell out with their own families after becoming royalty: Meghan with her father and his family and Diana with her mother.

Morton also claims that Meghan — who he previously called a "social climber" — was displeased that she didn't get a ton of credit for performing 100 royal engagements and releasing her Grenfell Tower charity cookbook last year.

Morton explained, “This disconnect between the reality of Meghan’s life and the unfair way she sees herself now portrayed has doubtless encouraged her to take a leaf straight from Princess Diana’s playbook — to go over the head of the Palace and allow her friends to speak on her behalf."

He adds, “Both women shared a humanitarian mission, both charismatic, their glamour offset by a spiritual dimension, a profound belief that they had a calling to use their position to make a difference.”

Morton concludes, “It is remarkable how these two women, lifetimes and worlds apart, have enjoyed so many Sliding Doors moments.”
