Frightening new video captures the moment a crazed man climbed atop a California family’s car and tried to punch out the windshield during an apparent fit of road rage.
Veneranda Alvarez had just picked up her two daughters, ages 12 and 13, from school around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and drove with them to meet her friend Chris at an Anaheim Jack in the Box, KTLA reported.
The suspect, who was in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee, appeared to first follow Chris across the parking lot as he walked to the fast food joint from a Walgreens in the same shopping complex.
As Chris approached Alvarez’s car, he confronted the man.
“He had told the guy, ‘Stop harassing me, stop following us,’” Alvarez told the station.
Once Chris got in her car, Alvarez said she was too afraid to wait at the drive-thru and drove away.
But that didn’t stop the Jeep driver, who stayed on their tail, Alvarez said.
“This car kept on following us, this guy,” she told the outlet. “It’s scary, and he was tailgating me.”
Alvarez tried to make a U-turn to get away — but instead of giving up, the driver came up behind her and cut her off, she recalled.
“That’s when he got out the car and he jumped on my hood of my car, then he started banging on it twice,” Alvarez told the station. “Then he shattered my windshield.”
Meanwhile, one of Alvarez’s daughters captured cellphone video of the ordeal.
The hood of the family’s Nissan Cube was dented after the attacker climbed on top, and the left side of the windshield was shattered, making it impossible for Alvarez to drive.
Miraculously, no one inside the car was injured — but Alvarez’s daughters missed school the next day because they were so shaken from the incident.
“I believe that God was with me,” Alvarez told the outlet. “I don’t know what to think. It’s crazy.”
Now she only hopes that cops can track down the man, who got away.
“I want him to get caught and be responsible for his actions,” she told the station.
