BBC Breakfast’s Matt Taylor, 45, was left mortified after forgetting who was on the show’s sofa, unleashing his colleagues’ potential to poke fun at him. He took to Twitter, where he boasts 37,000 followers, to let viewers in on the joke.
Taylor shared a snap of a cameraman standing alongside a sign that read: “Breakfast presenters: Louise and Jon. Today is: Wednesday. Your name is: Matt.”
Alongside the picture, Matt wrote: “I’m being trolled by the crew up here on the roof of Broadcasting House… after forgetting who was on the @BBCBreakfast sofa earlier.”
He also included Jon Kay’s username three times.
Presenter Jon Kay, 51, was quick to join in on the fun and tease Taylor.
He tweeted: “I don’t forgive, Matt. And I don’t forget.”
Copying Matt’s tweet, Jon typed out Matt’s predecessor Carol Kirkwood’s name three times.
The weather man then simply responded with a facepalm emoji.
The blunder happened at around 6.15am, when Matt handed back to the studio at the end of his section.
The former Met Office Senior Operational Meteorologist hesitated: “That’s how it’s looking and back to er… Louise and also… to…”
Louise tried to help him, chiming in: “Jon! Jon!”
Jon did not take it to heart, and joked: “Mystery voice competition!”
“It is, it is. Mystery voice! Sorry Jon,” said Matt.
But Jon continued to joke by calling Matt by the wrong name, responding: “Thanks Carol! You’re good.”
Despite his colleagues laughing back in the studio, Matt continued to apologise.
Louise added: “Oh, bless him.”
But later Matt struggled with Jon’s name again, prompting him to quip: “And we trust this man to tell us the weather!”
Louise defended the meteorologist: “I still trust him!”
Matt took over from Carol on Monday after the meteorologist presented her final show alongside Louise Minchin, who is leaving the show in just two weeks.
Presenters Dan Walker and Louise have not addressed Carol’s absence from BBC Breakfast.
However, last Wednesday, the weather presenter said she had her “final time” throwing back to her colleague in the studio.
