BBC podcast presenter Deborah James took to Instagram today to upload a candid video. The You, Me and the Big C star, 39, who has been living with stage four bowel cancer since she was diagnosed in December 2016, has said she almost “crashed and burned”. She told her followers on social media last month that an aggressive new tumour near her liver had wrapped itself around her bile duct.
The mother-of-two shared an update from her car as she admitted to struggling with the side effects of chemotherapy.
Deborah made a disclaimer adding that she may have been giving “too much information”.
Taking to her Instagram stories, the BBC presenter spoke candidly in view of 219,000 followers.
She began: “Good morning. Happy Thursday. I’ve been pretty quiet on here for a variety of reasons.
“Instagram can seem quite heavy sometimes, can’t it?”
Deborah continued: “If you follow a lot of cancer accounts, like me, there’s a lot going on in the world at the moment. I’m sending love to lots of people out there.
“I’m just coping with some vicious chemo side effects where I have to be honest with you.
“I didn’t know somebody could lose as much s**t in the space of about three days.”
She went on to explain that she had been “in and out” of [Royal] Marsden Hospital, where she met a specialist who had come up with a “plan of action”.
“A plan of action is always good,” Deborah explained.
“I didn’t realise how much I was losing… too much information.”
She added: “These last milestones of getting the kids to secondary school and getting back into a routine and wanting to plough on with work.

“But then I just crashed and burned and realised I’m on some hardcore chemo with some vicious side effects.
“I need to stop, listen to my body and manage it.”
Deborah also shared that she was due to undergo a blood transfusion later today.
“Luckily, I’m a bit more stable so I don’t need to do it right now,” she confirmed.
“But I am going to go and just chill out with my dog and do some nice things around the house.”
In an earlier post, Deborah shared a photo from inside the hospital.
She wrote: “View of the day! At least there is air conditioning. Ps. Chemo side effects suck!”
Deborah often keeps her social media followers updated on the progress made in her health journey.
