Legendary singer Britney Spears, 39, has revealed that people branded her “crazy” following her tumultuous split from husband Kevin Federline, 43, in 2007. The singing sensation opened up on her heartbreak behind her decision to split from her husband of two years, which saw the teen sensation go on to suffer a series of public meltdowns before finding love again in 2016.

Speaking in the 2008 documentary, Britney: For the Record, the star said: “I was going through so much artificial stuff with my kids and Kevin at the time.”

She also candidly addressed her “devastation” at her marriage not working out and being labelled “crazy” following her breakdowns after her split.

“He’d just left me and I was devastated.

“People thought that it was me going crazy and stuff like that, but people shave their heads all the time,” she added.

“I was going through a lot, but it was just kind of like me going through a little bit of rebellion, or feeling free, or shedding stuff that had happened, you know?”

The Toxic hitmaker suffered a series of breakdowns after her split from the father of her two sons, Sean and Jayden, Kevin, in 2006.

During her 2007 meltdown, the world witnessed the star shave her head after fleeing rehab in Antigua and demanding to see her sons at her ex-husband’s house.

Following her breakdowns, the star was placed under a conservatorship by her father, Jamie.

The iconic singer boasts a star-studded background of exes.

On her rise to stardom, 18-year-old Brit went out with NSYNC* star Justin Timberlake.

At the time, the singer revealed that she’d taken a vow to remain a virgin until marriage, but in an interview with W Magazine in 2003, the star revealed that she had lost her virginity to her boyfriend, two years into their relationship.

Hollywood’s teenage golden couple lasted three years before splitting in 2002.

Britney moved on from her long term relationship and reportedly started dating Irish actor Colin Farrell, sparking romance rumours when they attended a film premiere together in 2003.

However, both parties insisted that they were just having “fun” at the time.

A year later, Britney spontaneously married childhood friend Jason Alexander at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.

Nevertheless, the marriage lasted just 55 hours before it was annulled after the singer filed a petition with the court, citing a “lack of understanding” of her actions at the time.

Later that year, 22-year-old Britney went on to meet back-up dancer K-Fed and three months later, the couple married.

But the marriage wasn’t meant to be and in 2006, Britney filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind the split.

Following a series of failed relationships, Britney met current boyfriend Sam Asghari on the set of her music video for ‘Slumber Party’ in 2016 and frequently gives fans an insight into their loved-up life together on her Instagram.

The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship is on tonight, BBC Two at 9pm.
