Eastenders star Tamzin Outhwaite has now spoken about the incident earlier this week where she dived into a pool to save three children from drowning.

She had dived into the water “without hesitation” fully dressed in order to save the children while “shaken” parents witnessed the incident.

Taking to Twitter to address the incident she describes as “traumatic”, she thanked her fans for messages of support after the story broke.

Tamzin wrote: "Thank you for the many messages I received regarding recent stories in publications about me saving three children from drowning.

"They were all from the same family, who could not swim, and I did not know them.

"It was traumatic for all but I am just relieved that they are all ok."

The incident took place at a birthday pool party in North London on July 5.

Tamzin took immediate action when she noticed the children were in trouble, with witnesses to the events calling her a “hero”.

A witness told The Sun : "She leapt into the water without hesitation. It was very dramatic. Without a second’s doubt she entered the pool and plucked the youngest child to safety, before grabbing the other two.

“She reacted so fast that nobody else had even gone into the water by the time they were all safe.”

Thankfully doctors were in attendance at the party and once Tamzin had pulled the children to safety they were able to be checked over and made sure they were okay.

Tamzin reportedly didn’t want a fuss made over her actions on the day.

Tamzin is best known for her role as Mel Owen on the BBC soap Eastenders from 1998 to 2019, with a 16 year long break between 2002 and 2018.

Tamzin’s departure from Eastenders came as her character Mel was hit by a lorry as she approached a burning car, the smoke masking her ability to tell the lorry was coming.

It’s unlikely Tamzin will return to Eastenders with such a definitive ending to her character but she has gone on to appear in a number of shows following, including a 2021 appearance in The Masked Dancer as the Scarecrow.
