Elvis Presley is well known for his marriage to Priscilla Presley, but prior to his death, he was engaged to Ginger Alden. Alden was significantly younger than Elvis, but she seemed to adore him. And she didn’t seem to believe any of the rumors suggesting Elvis was seeing other women during her engagement.
Here’s what Alden had to say about the alleged affair Elvis was having with another woman.
Ginger Alden was engaged to Elvis Presley at the time of Elvis’ death
Alden and Elvis were all set to get married in 1977. While their 20-year age gap had some questioning the relationship, Alden knew Elvis was the one she wanted to spend her life with. She later commented on what her relationship was like with The King and how she felt about receiving a marriage proposal in his Graceland bathroom.
“I was called into his bathroom where Elvis then said many beautiful things ending his proposal with, ‘I never thought that I would find it in my own backyard, I’m asking you, will you marry me?’” Alden said during an interview, according to Elvis Australia. “I was so happy as he presented a green velvet box, opened it, and placed a very large and beautiful diamond ring on my finger. My hand was shaking as we kissed and stepped out of the bathroom into his bedroom.”
Unfortunately, Alden never got to tie the knot. She found Elvis in that same bathroom when he died.
Alden said she doesn’t believe the rumors suggesting Elvis was cheating
Elvis had plenty of fangirls, and he certainly was flirtatious. But Alden believes he was totally faithful to her when it came to their engagement.
An old interview later published by Elvis Australia had the interviewer, Scott Jenkins, asking Alden about Alicia Kerwin. According to Jenkins, Kerwin was the rumored woman Elvis was seeing while engaged to Alden.
“I never heard of this woman until Elvis’ cousin Billy started this story after Elvis passed away,” Alden said. “There was obviously much misunderstood that was going on behind closed doors and I can only think that when certain events happened, in which I tried helping Elvis and left Graceland for a few hours because of his actions, Elvis must have gotten mad at me when he couldn’t reach me and said something to others.”
While Alden thinks Elvis was faithful, she then added that it’s possible he could’ve been cheating on her without her knowledge. “Could he have taken someone for a night somewhere when mad? Is it possible? I guess so,” she added. “Is it true? I don’t know. I have seen no pictures of him with this woman. But, it is very wrong and a huge exaggeration to say that Elvis was seeing someone else.”
Priscilla Presley had an affair when married to Elvis
While Alden didn’t see any evidence of cheating in her relationship with Elvis, it was certainly evident in Elvis’ relationship with Priscilla. When Priscilla was still too young to have sex, she was certain Elvis was having sex with others behind her back. And she ultimately had an affair of her own.
Priscilla eventually left Elvis, as the two had many troubles throughout their marriage. But she still has fond memories of him after his death. She wrote in her memoir that hearing of his death made her “want to die” because of the grief.
While Priscilla’s been open about Elvis cheating on her in the past, it seems Alden doesn’t believe Elvis was doing the same to her.
