Lisa Riley, the star best known for her performance as Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap Emmerdale, has gone out to get her first ever tattoo at the age of 45.

Posting to Instagram, Lisa shared a photo of herself with tattoo artist Hannah Elizabeth Gehrke from Red Tattoo and Piercing in Leeds.

Admitting she had a knack for “chickening out” several times prior, she proudly posted snaps of the process as she finally got her first piece of ink.

Lisa shared another photo of her foot propped up on a table, with Hannah working to tattoo on the side of her arch.

Lisa captioned the image: "I DID IT!!!

"Today after five years of putting it off. I had my FIRST TATTOO done… by the superbly talented @gerktattoos @redtattooleeds she’s UNBELIEVABLE.

"A gorgeous person, crazy brilliant, when someone’s talented and lovely. I knew I was in safe hands."

Speaking on the tattoo, she said: "The tattoo looks fantastic, everything I imagined and so much more. THANK YOU."

Lisa had admitted in 2018 that while she played the character of tattoo artist Tina Finch in the BBC drama Age Before Beauty, she herself had “chickened out” three times in an attempt to get a tattoo.

At the time she said: "I have been to the tattoo parlour three times and chickened out.

"I do want one on my foot and I will probably get it one day, but the idea of it being forever freaks me out ever so slightly,"

As Lisa overcame her fears and finally got the tattoo she had failed to get before, fans were overjoyed for the star.

One said: “Hell yeah! Welcome to the gang!”

Another commented: "One of many – it is addictive! Well done!"

Emmerdale’s Michelle Hardwick also commented on the post, saying: "Yes Lisa!!! I’m so tempted to get one!"

While Lisa has been proud to tell the world of her accomplishment, she has yet to show fans what it was she got done.

In 2018 while discussing her role as a tattoo artist on Age Before Beauty, Lisa spoke about the on screen process for tattoos, saying: "Doing the real tattoo on someone was a challenge."

"When I was doing it on set we had the foot peddle, the ink and the noise, everything except the needle."

"We had a supporting actress come in one day to have a beauty treatment done, which was Tina tattooing her eyebrows."

"Pre-tattoo, as prep on the day, you have this cream that looks like black hair mousse put on your brows so for a short while she looked a little like Freddie Mercury!"
