Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden, 41, has taken to Instagram to launch a tirade of frustration at his social media following, for their inability to use apostrophes correctly. In a lengthy rant, the father-of-three addressed how to correctly use the contraction of ‘you’ and ‘are’, visibly wound up at his fans’ inability to use the correct form.
So I’m popping on here this afternoon to have a bit of a rant
Sitting in his car, Matthew donned a black Nike cap and grey hoodie to make his heated statement in.
After revealing that he had just had blonde highlights added to his long locks, the star’s bleached hairdo could be seen sticking out from beneath his hat.
Visibly agitated, Matthew got straight to the point in front of his 175,000 followers.
He said: “So I’m popping on here this afternoon to have a bit of a rant.
“I’m not usually one to rant, but I’m going to rant because if one more person replies to one of my stories with the words ‘your funny’ , spelling the word your, y-o-u-r, funny,” he fumed, spelling out the word phonetically.
Matthew decided to give his fans a quick lesson in the correct usage of the contraction.
Heatedly, he explained: “It’s not, ‘y-o-u-r funny’, it’s y-o-u-‘-r-e, the apostrophe replaces the ‘a’ in are.
“You are funny,” he stated again for clarity.
The actor added: “The only way ‘your funny’, y-o-u-r funny works is if you put something after it.
“Like ‘your funny face’,” he spelled out to his followers.
“‘Your funny shoes, your funny looking wife’,” Matthew continued, still clearly incensed over the subject.
An hour later, a calmer looking Matthew returned to his stories to reveal that despite the impromptu grammar lesson, his followers were still spelling the contraction wrongly.
“So I’ve had various responses to my rant early this afternoon,” he said.
“Most people saying you’re not actually funny, spelt wrong, ‘y-o-u-r’,” he mocked.
“‘Your’ not actually funny, hilarious, very comical” he replied sarcastically.
The star continued: “I’ve had Aaron – do you remember Aaron from before, who asked what Charley had had for her tea?” he asked his fans before collapsing into laughter.
Controlling himself, Matthew continued: “He wrote, ‘What has you’re wife,’ spelt ‘y-o-u’-r-e’, had for her breakfast?”
As he started laughing again, the actor said: “Which I know was very good and the best one was from, let’s call him Simon, because that’s his name.
“He put ‘Your’, spelt wrong, ‘a t**t’,” the Emmerdale star said before giggling.
“Ten out of ten,” Matthew joked before signing off his stories.
