Iain Stirling praises Laura Whitmore’s perseverance after Caroline Flack’s death

Love Island narrator Iain Stirling has commended his girlfriend Laura Whitmore for her excellent work hosting the show for the first time.

Her job was made particularly tough last week when the former host, Caroline Flack, took her own life.

Both Iain and Laura were friends with Caroline, so it was a difficult time, but Laura showed immense strength and carried on presenting the show.

Ahead of the series final tonight, Iain wrote a heartfelt tweet that said: "Big day today. It’s the final of @LoveIsland. I hope you all tune in.

"The contestants have been amazing this year. So a huge well done to all of them, the team that make the show what it is and of course @thewhitmore for being more incredible than I could have ever imagined. X."

Meanwhile, Laura celebrated the series close with a photo with her driver, gushing over him in the poignant caption.

She wrote: "Last day in the villa! This is Clint Africa who has been my driver over in Cape Town and he always responds ‘happiness’ to everything I text him.

"I just love his energy. He’s a Tottenham Hotspur fan (can’t win them all) so I got him this jersey… and yes his surname is AFRICA #happiness."

The live final tonight will see Demi Jones and Luke Mabbott, Paige Turley and Finn Tapp, Jess Gale and Ched Uzor, and Siannise and Luke Trotman all battle it out to win the £50,000 prize.

Fans will get to watch highlights from the series, as well as a prom for the contestants where they declare their feelings for each other in formal evening wear.

Each couple will be interviewed by Laura, and the couple that win will have to make the awkward "split or steal" decision – where one, or both, could potentially vote to steal the cash prize.

If one person votes to steal and the other person shares, the stealer takes the full amount.

If both vote to steal, they both go home empty-handed.
