Jane Birkin, 74, was joined by her lookalike daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg at the star studded event. The mother and daughter duo appeared to be in high spirits as the pair were all smiles at the Cannes Film Festival.

The model’s daughter will be showcasing a documentary about her mum, titled Jane by Charlotte.

Jane cut a stylish look as she sported a velvet suit jacket paired with matching trousers which was teamed with a cream blouse.

The actress and singer’s daughter looked equally chic in an all black ensemble.

Charlotte, who shares an uncanny resemblance to her mum, rocked a black jumpsuit team with a blazer.

As the mum and daughter duo walked the red carpet they were all smiles as they posed for pictures.

Jane and her former partner Serge Gainsbourg dated for 13 years and later welcomed their daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg in 1971.

After separating from him nine years later, she continued to work as both an actress and a singer, appearing in various independent films and recording numerous solo albums.

Serge later died in 1991 following a heart attack at the age of 62.

The British-born actress has mainly resided in France since the 1970s.

Speaking about Jane by Charlotte which has premiered at Cannes Film Festival, the documentary-maker explained she used the project as a way “to get close to her”.

The film had been on hold after Jane told her daughter that her questions were too probing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Charlotte said: “She said, ‘I hated what you did in Japan. I hated the interview.’

“I just said to the producer, ‘Well, the film is finished. We can’t continue.’”

But in the end, she added, Jane “did understand that it was done in a caring way, that it is a declaration of love for my mother.”

Charlotte also explained that there were plans to open her father Serge’s home as museum.

Jane has previously opened up about her relationship with the late director.

She remarked: “I never imagined that I was particularly beautiful, even then, but I knew that I was what Serge thought was beautiful.

“I think I only looked like myself for the first time around the age of 28.”

“Serge was directing me in the film for the song Je t’aime moi non plus – he took off all my make-up and I had a short haircut,” Jane added to Elle magazine.

Meanwhile, A-listers have flocked to the South of France for the popular annual event.
