Lorraine Kelly has shared her frustration as she called out those who have broke lockdown rules as close friend and Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garaway’s husband Derek Draper’s continues to battle with his health.
The GMB star’s husband Derek was rushed to hospital almost a year ago after suffering complications from contracting the coronavirus.
At the time doctors put him into an induced coma, and after four months Kate announced he had woken up in July.
Almost a year after he was hospitalised, Derek remains in a serious condition in hospital.
While he remains in hospital, Kate has since admitted she is unable to visit him due to new restrictions introduced during the third national lockdown.
Lorraine, who is a close friend of the GMB star, recently spoke out of her frustration she feels towards COVID-19 rule-breakers amid Derek’s ongoing health battle.
During an interview with OK Magazine, she said: “When I interviewed Kate she was able to come to the studios because we’re all in a bubble at work.
“But we were talking about Derek, and I just wanted to give her a big cuddle.
“Because of what happened to her, it brought it home to all of us at work just how serious this is.”
The talk show host went on to add: “That’s why I get so upset when I see people having raves and not wearing their masks, and all of these crazy theorists who say the pandemic’s not a real thing.
“My friend’s husband has been in hospital since March.”
Lorraine interviewed Kate on her daytime show back in November last year.
At the time, Kate spoke of how Derek had started to speak his first few words since waking up from his coma in July.

Although the news was bittersweet, as Kate explained, he mouthed the word “pain” to nurses.
Talking to Lorraine, Kate said: “[The hospital] rung we said we’ve got a word.
“They were quite emotional as well and the brilliant doctors and nurses and all the constantly talk to like he can hear which is the right thing to do.
“Throughout the whole thing he’s been in a coma and they you know we’re going move the leg lets us know if you’re in discomfort or pain and he just suddenly went pain.
“So there wasn’t particularly a sound it was a mouthing, but it was very clear and then I saw it again as well.”
Talking of her hopes for his recovery, Kate went on to add: “I feel like this is the beginning of emerging, but there is a long road ahead.
“They can’t put a time on it, so they’re saying we have no data with disorders of consciousness anyway because everybody is different.
“But with Covid, because it’s so unknown and its long term effects are still not really known they say ‘we have no data, but we are trying to predict this’.”
