Rock band Journey‘s newly revamped lineup will headline the 2021 edition of the annual Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.
The news was broken by Journey guitarist Neal Schon while speaking on SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk” program on Wednesday.
“I’m dying to get on stage again. We have our first date booked for Lollapalooza, and we’re headlining in Chicago. And that’s supposedly in April,” he told Eddie Trunk.
Schon expressed hope that the 2021 event will not get postponed because the COVID vaccine will pin down the virus.
“And hopefully they start dispersing it very quickly so everybody can get back on their feet and can get out and hear music, ’cause that’s what heals the world, I think,” he added.
Schon said he can guarantee that “with the new blood in the band, when we get together for two weeks of rehearsal before that show, we will be the new alternative.”
He promised that the band is “gonna bring some new dynamics and open things up a bit and show people what the musicianship is really like in this band.”
The 2020 edition of Lollapalooza was converted to online performances in the wake of the pandemic.
