This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield, 58, took to Instagram to express his excitement at being reunited with his mum Pat, 84 after spending the last year apart. The one half of the This Morning presenting team documented the emotional reunion for his fans to see, including his first hug with his mum in over 12 months. In a post the following day, the ITV star revealed that he and his mum had been reunited just in time for Pat’s 85th birthday.
First time I’ve seen her in a year
In view of his 3.1 million followers, Phillip expressed his joy at finally being reunited with his mum after a long year apart.
Taking a selfie in his car this morning, the star revealed that he was on his way to greet her.
Grinning excitedly he wrote: “Off to pick up my mum from the station!!
“First time I’ve seen her in a year”, followed by a face emoji surrounded by hearts.
The next story revealed that Pat had finally arrived at the station and showed her with multiple bags and a suitcase in tow.
“Her majesty has arrived,” Phillip captioned the snap.
With them both wearing masks, Phil and Pat were able to share their first hug in over a year.
Clearly emotional, Phillip simply wrote: “Mum hug,” as they both gazed up at the camera.
Earlier in the year the ITV star revealed that he and his mum had decided to wait until lockdown restrictions were eased before seeing each other.
Despite Pat having received both doses of the coronavirus earlier in the year, the star revealed they were both going to wait until the easing of restrictions ahead of their reunion.
Speaking onThis Morning earlier this year, Phillip said: “Mum was very lucky actually, she’s not a billionaire, she’s just down in Cornwall.
“She just happened to be on the list and they called her back, I think maybe towards the end of the period they might have some left over or whatever, and she got her second vaccine,” he added.
Last year the ITV presenter spoke to Chris Evans on his Virgin Radio Breakfast show about the moment he came out to his mum as gay.
“She knew I was coming and she knew something was up,” he revealed to the radio DJ.
Phillip explained: “I have floaters in my eyes which drive me crazy.
“So we had our fish and chips and I said, ‘Mum, I have something to tell you’ and she said, ‘Okay, alright’ and I said ‘I’m gay’.”
Phillip went on to reveal Pat’s reaction to the news: “And she went, ‘Oh thank god, I thought you were going blind’!”
Confused by her response, the presenter recalled: “I said ‘What the hell do you mean? Why do you think I’m going blind?’
“She said, ‘Those things you’ve got in your eyes and I know you’ve been very sad recently’ and I said ‘No mum, no. No I’m not going blind’.”
In response to him coming out as gay, Phillip previously said his mum replied: “‘Oh ok, well I don’t care’.”
