Piers Morgan, 56, has claimed on Twitter to his 7.9 million followers that he already knows he has lost the Best Presenter Award. He is up against the likes of Ant and Dec, who have won the award for 19 years in a row.
If I’ve won, I’ll come down and accept it myself.
Piers tweeted: “The @OfficialNTAS asked me who would accept the award on my behalf if I won Presenter of the Year.
“If I’ve won, I’ll come down and accept it myself,’I replied excitedly, rapidly dusting off my Tux and tickling my speech.
“Since then, deafening silence.”
Followers were quick to reply.
Fellow presenter India Willoughby said: “This is the year Piers.
“Wouldn’t have called otherwise.
“In the bag.”
A fan said: “I would be delighted if you win Piers… it would make my day… you are the best and no mistake!”
Another replied: “But you haven’t been on TV for most of the year?
“Can you win it by putting out good tweets?”
A third said: “You could ask Ant and Dec to pick it up for you?”
This comes after Piers publicly announced he did not believe the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! hosts should win the gong.
He said to The Mirror: “If they had to do this individually, how would they get on? I think it’s actually cheating to do it as a pair.
“I deserve to win because everyone’s sick and tired of Ant and Dec automatically winning this award, which bears no relation to reality.
“I think it’s time the procession came to a shuddering halt and the Morgan bandwagon was rewarded with glory.
“We can’t have those two little vain-glorious Geordies standing there for the 20th consecutive year.”
Piers goes up against Ant and Dec, This Morning’s Holly Willoughby, Bradley Walsh, and Alison Hammond.
Despite Piers’ comments, Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly are predicted to take the victory again.
The outspoken journalist has already informed fans he will not be attending this year’s NTAs and will be watching from his living room.
He tweeted as the NTAs started: “Got a cracking seat. #NTAs.”
Piers accompanied the tweet with a picture of his television, as he relaxed with his feet up.
People were quick to comment on Piers not attending the NTAs.
One quipped of his photo: “Not feet. I hate feet.”
Another said: “Everybody cried out laughing when they heard the man that walked off TV thought he was going to win an award tonight.”
