Every royal fanatic knows that Queen Elizabeth is a lover of color. The 92-year-old monarch regularly steps out in greens, blues, pinks and yellows, accompanied by a matching hat, purse, pair of shoes and umbrella. The brighter color, the better for the queen, who has seemingly dabbled with more shades than included in a Crayola box.

Like her grandmother-in-law, Kate Middleton doesn’t shy away from eccentric shades. While the Duchess of Cambridge is a fan of more natural hues, such as hunter greens and light blushes, the trendsetting mother-of-three occasionally dabbles in pigments school-bus yellows and fuchsias. She most recently stepped out in one of the colors of the summer –a radiant bumblebee frock by Dolce & Gabbana — at Wimbledon alongside Prince William.
But there’s one shade that the 36-year-old royal refuses to experiment with: orange.
According to a style expert Daisy Schubert, there’s a reason the duchess has never been seen in the shade since joining the royal family 8 years ago. “If my suspicion is correct, she would look dreadful in orange and does well to avoid it,” she explained to Express. And although its hard to imagine Kate looking bad in anything, Schubert’s predictions are backed up with a little “color analysis.”

She said, “Having a cool, blue undertone means that the orange colour pigments would clash with her natural features. You’d only see the dress, not her!”
Color analyst Gabriella Winters echoed Shubert’s suspicion. “People absorb and reflect the same colours differently depending on their unique biological makeup,” she explained to Hello Magazine. “When a colour is placed adjacent to your face, it will reflect its wavelength onto you.”
