AFTER years of self-doubt, the Hello singer has shed SEVEN STONE as part of her reinvention.
From London girl to global megastar worth £150million, here’s how the singer conquered the world.
The early years
Adele was raised by her mother Penny in West Norwood, London, after her father left when she was just three years old. By the age of four she was already a keen singer, before studying at the prestigious BRIT School (where fellow classmates included Leona Lewis and Jessie J) until May 2006.
2007 – Hitting the small screen
In June 2007 the singer-songwriter made her TV debut aged 19, performing Daydreamer on BBC’s Later… With Jools Holland. Four months later, she was propelled to stardom by her first single Hometown Glory, followed by debut album 19 in 2008.
2009 – A win-win situation
Rocking her side fringe and eyeliner, Adele became a regular on the London party circuit, hanging with the likes of Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis and Miley Cyrus. She won two Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and sang Chasing Pavements at the ceremony.
2011 – A one-derful achievement
Adele’s second album 21 shot straight to No.1 in the charts when it was realised in January. At the BRITs a few weeks later she performed that spine-tingling rendition of Someone Like You.
2012 – Mr lover lover
Adele started dating entrepreneur Simon Konecki, 45, in summer 2011. Notoriously private about her personal life, she wasn’t officially pictured with him until the following February at the Grammys.
2012 – Swear blind
Proving she was still the no-nonsense London girl we fell in love with, Adele flipped the bird at the producers who cut her off mid-speech while accepting a BRIT Award for British Album Of The Year in 2012. Four months later, Adele announced she and Simon were expecting a baby. Their son Angelo was born on October 19, 2012, with Adele admitting that parenthood made her feel “like I was truly living. I had a purpose, where before I didn’t.”
2013 – Prince charmin’
The singer had a huge year after winning an Oscar for Best Original Song for the James Bond theme tune Skyfall in 2013. She was appointed an MBE for her services to music, receiving the award from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace that December.
2015 – Going Gaga
While taking a hiatus from the spotlight, Adele made pals with the Hollywood elite, and was spotted out with Emma Stone, J.Law and Lady Gaga, who posted this pic on Insta, saying: “Nothing like a Wednesday bro-down with the beautiful Adele.”
2016 – Glasto Glory
After releasing her third album 25 in autumn 2015, the following summer Adele joined the legendary likes of David Bowie, Oasis and Beyoncé by headlining the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival, where she rocked a long-sleeved dress with a chic new hairdo.
2017 – Top of the pops
Adele stole the show at the 59th Grammy Awards, taking home Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year and Album of the Year for 25. She also casually revealed that she was married after thanking her “husband” during her acceptance speech.
2019 – Viva Forever
It was the stuff of dreams when Adele met her idols the Spice Girls during their world tour, posting on Insta: “Last time I saw the Spice Girls at Wembley was 21 years ago! Tonight… I cried, laughed, screamed, danced, reminisced and fell back in love with my 10-year-old self.” Spice up your life!
2020 – Life’s a beach
After splitting from her husband of three years in late 2019, Adele showed off her incredible slimmed-down figure, cheekily admitting on Instagram: “I used to cry, now I sweat.” Fingers crossed her fourth album will be released ASAP.
