I worked on phone sex lines for a fiver an hour to pay the bills but it put me off men for life, now I only date women

A UNIVERSITY student has revealed how she became a £5-an-hour phone sex operator to help pay for her bills.

The anonymous woman, 21, said she hoped to rake in some easy cash to help fund her studies at Edinburgh uni, but was soon left sickened from some of the “creepy” calls.

At first she had tried bar work to earn some cash, but said it left her exhausted and unable to do her studies properly.

She turned to the phone sex industry as she was able to do it from her bed.

Speaking to the Mirror, she said: “At the start I logged in to the phone line and would get a call every five to 10 minutes and the calls would just last a few minutes.

"I would either get someone who was getting off on the phone and making noises, asking me to say things.”

When the calls began, she would make 11p per minute for when callers first stayed on the line, and this would increase if they stayed on longer.

After two months' work, she had made £800, which seemed like a lot of money to her at the time.

She said at first she found the calls tolerable and sometimes even found herself trying not to laugh when speaking to blokes.

However, things took a more creepy turn, when men started asking her to behave like a child.

She said: "The more I did it the more I came across men who would say 'you sound really young' and 'you are underage'. They would say 'do you want the milk from the bottle'.”

The uni student said people would ask her about being back in school, what she would do behind the bike sheds, and also asking about having a pals “wearing little pink knickers.”

The sex phone operator found the chats “awful” and said it has affected her whole opinion of men – so much so that she now is a lesbian.

Despite helping her earn some cash during her studies, she said she regrets having to resort to it and wishes she asked her parents for help or budgeted better.

The more I did it the more I came across men who would say 'you sound really young' and 'you are underage'.

She said that she felt pressured to stay on the line during uncomfortable calls as she would be penalised if she hung up.

And if she didn’t answer the phone she got three chances before she was kicked off the service.

The woman added: "The company said I could hang up if it was explicit paedophilia but if it was stuff like 'do you have a bottle or a dummy' or 'are you in your big girl training bra' that wasn't deemed explicit paedophilia.”

She said that it would cost people £2 a minute to call her, which meant a 50 minute chat would set them back £100.

While men spent a lot of money on their calls, her phone sex company took most of it, leaving her with about £5 each hour, which she called “exploitation.”

The student gave up the job after moving back in with her parents for the summer.
