Imaan Hammam and Frame Collaborate on a Collection That Celebrates Diversity

Imaan Hammam doesn’t fit into a prescribed box. She is a Dutch model whose parents hail from Egypt and Morocco. And when she started out in the industry, her almond complexion and curly brown hair was not the standard, far from it. Still, she persisted in the hopes that things would change in her favor.

Sure enough, they did, when Riccardo Tisci, then at Givenchy, had the foresight to think outside the ivory box, placing Hammam at the front of his spring 2014 collection. Shortly after, others began to take notice, and at the tender age of 17, she was enlisted by every major brand—from Chanel to Valentino to Hermès—to walk in their fashion shows and to not only appear in their advertising campaigns, but to star in them.

Now, Hammam is one of the most in-demand models working, attracting attention outside the confines of the fashion industry. It is this quality that prompted the heads at Frame, a contemporary label based in both Los Angeles and London, to enlist her for a capsule line.

“Collaborating with Frame on this collection has been an exploration of my design aesthetic and desire to break barriers—translating my truth and guiding words of freedom, diversity, youth and empowerment into a line of clothing that I really love,” Hammam said in a statement. “I’m proud of what we’ve created together.”

Dubbed Imaan x Frame, the 20-piece collection consists of wardrobe essentials, from sleek trousers and blazers to jeans, denim jackets, and tees. It captures the chic, laid-back vibe synonymous with MODs (models off duty).

“The leather booty short is my absolute favorite piece for a night out,” Hammam said in the same statement. “They are very sexy but still chic at the same time. I love to wear them with a halter top or a blazer. I love the denim on denim look. The blue cropped denim jacket is fitted so I can wear it as a top and pair it with the ripped boyfriend blue jean. Everyone should have a pair of these jeans because they are so comfortable but still show your curves.”

To highlight the fact that the collection is not just for women of her, well, frame, the advertising campaign showcases a cast who come from all walks of life, including stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson. They all let their personalities shine through, wearing looks according to their standards. Indeed, none fits into a prescribed box.
