Meghan and Harry latest: Ex-royal wins High Court bid to keep secret names of five pals who gave interview to People mag

MEGHAN Markle has today won a High Court bid to keep secret the identities of five friends who gave an anonymous interview to People Magazine.

The Duchess of Sussex is suing the publisher of the Mail on Sunday, after a "private" letter she sent to her estranged father Thomas Markle was released.

Associated Newspapers has argued the existence of the letter had been discussed in an anonymous interview given by five ofMeghan's friends to People Magazine.

Meghan's lawyers applied for her friends to be kept anonymous as part of the proceedings – something the paper's legal team opposed.

The 39-year-old says her friends gave the interview without her knowledge, and denies a claim made by ANL that she "caused or permitted" the People article to be published.

The judge today ruled the identities of Meghan's friends must remain confidential "in the interests of justice" – saying the decision had been made "for the time being".

“William is barely speaking to his brother Harry and Kate has every reason to be upset with Meghan but they have risen above it.”

  • MEGHAN HAS A 'GIRL CRUSH' ON ELIZABETH HURLEY

Writing on her now-defunct blog The Tig in 2015, the former Suits star gushed about Ms Hurley's infamous low-cut necklines and “high slit” dresses.

Meghan said she has “always loved everything” about Liz and credits the 55-year-old with making her “aspire to act like a lady and feel like a woman”.

In a foreword for her Tig Talk interview with Ms Hurley, the Duchess of Sussex, 39, said her crush was sparked after Liz wore her iconic safety pin Versace dress in 1994 to accompany Hugh Grant to the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral.

“I can’t begin to tell you about my girl crush on Elizabeth Hurley. Well… yes, I can, and I really really want to. So indulge me for a moment,” she wrote.

“Maybe it started with that Versace safety pin dress, as it did for the rest of the world.”

  • MEGHAN'S NAME MISSPELLED IN LORRAINE KELLY'S BIRTHDAY MESSAGE

Lorraine dedicated a section of her show to the Duchess of Sussex's 39th birthday today, but fans were less than impressed with the on-screen spelling mistake.

One fan tweeted the presenter: “How do you manage to spell Meghan wrong?”

  • EDWARD ENNINFUL SAYS CRITICISM OF MEGHAN WASN'T DOWN TO RACISM

The editor of British Vogue claims that criticism of the Duchess of Sussex was down to the “rules of royalty” rather than racism.

Speaking to Sky News he said: “The Duchess of Sussex is a brave woman.

“I feel that it wasn't (racism). Parts of it were probably racism, but it was more of an institution.

“'She walked into an institution and everyone expected her to know the rules. And I think sometimes it takes a minute to understand the rules.”

  • HARRY & MEGHAN 'RISK SAFETY WITH PRIVATE LA SECURITY FIRM' SAYS DIANA'S BODYGUARD

The couple are now using private security guards after leaving frontline royal duties in Britain and recently moving to Hollywood.

But the pair and their baby son Archie, one, could be leaving themselves dangerously exposed, according to the cop who once guarded Harry’s mum.

Ken Wharfe headed the 24-hour security operation that successfully shielded Princess Di from harm until just before she left “The Firm” and gave up her royal protection.

SAS-trained Ken, 68, said: “Harry and Meghan’s private security detail will not have the same access to international intelligence as the Yard did.

“Even though Harry and Meghan have stepped away from the royal family, he will always be seen as part of the institution by the British public, so urgent clarification of the assistance now being given to him – if any – by Scotland Yard is now needed.

“Even if he has a consultant from the Yard, what role does he play? And I doubt he would have the same access to intelligence as a whole team of Yard detectives. These questions need to be asked now.”

  • MEGHAN SHARES HER BIRTHDAY WITH THE QUEEN MOTHER

The Duchess of Sussex turns 39 today – and she shares her birthday with a member of the royal family.

He said: “I didn’t have a makeup trial with her because we couldn’t make the time.

“But I think for anybody, Pinterest is an incredible tool to use as a reference.”

Meghan revealed the sweet habit in 2016 on her now-deleted lifestyle website The Tig when she wrote: “My mom has always said that birthdays are your own personal New Year.

“Your own chance to make resolutions just for yourself and what you prognosticate for your year ahead.”

She continued to say she wishes for “More surprises, more adventure, more opportunities to grow, more days filled with giggles and cheeky jokes, more delicious meals, and more inspiration. Always more inspiration.”

  • MEGHAN SPENDING HER BIRTHDAY DOING LOW-KEY CELEBRATIONS

Meghan will no doubt be spending the day with husband Prince Harry and their son Archie.

The couple moved to America with their 14-month-old boy just a few weeks before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the globe, and like everyone else have been living under lockdown.

Birthday celebrations are likely to be low-key, as the state of California they now call home reportedly has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in America (at the time of Meghan's birthday).

  • MEGHAN'S HAIRSTYLE SENDS 'BLUNT PROTOCOL MESSAGE TO ROYAL FAMILY'

When Meghan Markle made her anticipated appearance at the Girl Up Summit last month, the Duchess debuted long, straight hair – which her hairdresser pal believes sent a strong message to the Royal Family.

Her UK hairstylist and close pal George Northwood told the Telegraph: “She's making a statement with hair that long – it represents strength and a sense that she's really got everything sorted.

“This straighter, longer hairstyle marks a new chapter in her life without such strict protocols.”

Surprisingly, George also revealed that despite everyone presuming Meghan, 38, has had some VERY pricey extensions, it’s actually her own hair.

“People think that Meghan has had hair extensions, but I never put any extensions in her hair in the two years that I worked with her. It's all her own hair, and it's great to see it looking so long and healthy.”

  • MEGHAN'S HRH TITLE STRIPPED FROM ROYAL FAMILY WEBSITE

Meghan has had her HRH title stripped from her biography on the Royal website.

Huge chunks of text on the page have been heavily edited and now only mentions the Duchess' move to the US with the Duke of Sussex.

The biography's 'Career' section now refers to Meghan as “she” or the “Duchess” rather than “Her Royal Highness”.

The rest of the royal family, the Duke of Sussex included, still have a biography in place.

In 2018, after her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan was granted multiple paragraphs on the official site detailing her time in North America and Canada prior to joining the Firm.

  • WHY MEGHAN'S BIRTHDAY IS PARTICULARLY POIGNANT FOR THE ROYAL FAMILY

While the Duchess of Sussex will mark her 39th birthday today, it's an important day for the entire royal family – especially the Queen.

Eagle-eyed royal fans will know that while August 4 is Meghan's special day, it's also the birthday of another member of the royal family.

The Queen Mother, Elizabeth, was born on the same date, in 1900.

Sadly, the Queen Mother passed away over 16 years ago on March 30 2002, so it's bound to be a significant day for Her Majesty and the rest of the royal family.

  • MEGHAN SAID ALL SHE WANTS FOR HER BIRTHDAY IS 'KINDNESS'

Meghan is 39 today – and she's got one simple birthday wish.

The Duchess of Sussex will ring in the big day in Los Angeles after a whirlwind 12 months, and wants the gifts of “kindness” and “happiness”.

Writing for Elle UK in 2014 – when she was still starring in TV show Suits – Meghan explained her very simple birthday requests as she turned 33.

“I am 33 years old today, and I am happy. And I say that so plainly because, well…it takes time,” she wrote.

“To be happy. To figure out how to be kind to yourself. To not just choose that happiness, but to feel it.

“For my birthday, here’s what I would like as a gift: I want you to be kind to yourself.

“I want you to challenge yourself. I want you to stop gossiping, to try a food that scares you, to buy a coffee for someone just because, to tell someone you love them…and then to tell yourself right back.

“I want you to find your happiness.”

  • MEGHAN AND HARRY'S DOG NAME REVEALED

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed a rescue black Labrador to their home in the summer of 2018, shortly after their wedding.

But the name of the dog was kept a secret until now as it has been shared in the new royal biography Finding Freedom.

Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand revealed that the dog is called Pula.

Pula is the currency of Botswana where the couple reportedly had their third date, and also means “rain” in Setswana.

Meghan also has rescue beagle Guy, but had to give away her other rescue dog Bogart as he isn’t a fan of Harry.

  • MEGHAN MARKLE CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY AS SHE TURNS 39 TODAY

Meghan will today celebrate her 39th birthday in private after a rift with the Royal Family.

The Duchess of Sussex will ring in the big day in Los Angeles after a whirlwind 12 months that has seen her life transformed.

Birthday celebrations are likely to be low-key as the state of California they now call home reportedly has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in America.

The couple moved to America with their 14-month-old son just a few weeks before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the globe, and like everyone else have been living under lockdown.

  • MEGHAN 'CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT' THIS £350 PIECE OF COOKING EQUIPMENT

Meghan’s weapon of choice in the kitchen is a Vitamix, which describes itself as a “use-mine-every-day, can’t-live-without-it, commercial-standard blender”.

It reportedly followed her wherever she went, and she would whip up not only drinks but food in it too.

Pictures on her defunct Instagram page showed the former actress posing with her Vitamix, which she used to make everything from shakes to pesto.

The gadget was used by Meghan day to day, and she even managed to resist the lure of caffeine with it.

She told Today: “If I blend some apple, kale, spinach, lemon, and ginger in my Vitamix in the morning and bring it to work, I always find that sipping on that is a much better boost than a cup of espresso.”

  • MEGHAN VOWED TO STOP 'WASTING TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO LIE AND MANIPULATE'

The Duchess made the comments in the form of a quote posted on her blog in 2014.

The post, which featured a quote by Portuguese author Jose Micard Teixeira was discovered by one of Meghan's fan accounts, on Instagram.

“I no longer have patience for certain things, not because I’ve become arrogant, but simply because I reached a point in my life where I do not want to waste more time with what displeases me or hurts me”, the quote read.

“I lost the will to please those who do not like me, to love those who do not love me and to smile at those who do not want to smile at me.

“I no longer spend a single minute on those who lie or want to manipulate.”
