Stumped about what to get your loved ones this holiday season? According to celebrity hairstylist Julius Michael, you can’t go wrong with the gift of longer locks.
The Bravo-beloved stylist famous for beautifying the “Housewives” told Page Six Style that custom extensions make for perfect presents — even if the recipient already has plenty of hair to work with.
“Girls who have long hair, they want volume. Girls that have short hair want long hair,” Michael explained.
“If you give someone a set of custom extensions, they have that forever. So every time they put that in their hair, they’re thinking of you, and they’re grateful that you actually got them something that they could really use and not return. Most girls return the gifts they get anyway!”
His favorite brand is Hidden Crown Hair, which he’s used on the heads of Tamra Judge, Melissa Gorga and Ramona Singer.
“A good set of extensions lasts for years,” Michael added. “I color them. I wash them. I create so many styles on one set. And my oldest set is about three and a half years old. So a good set of hair extensions should last you a lifetime.”
Or, if you want to gift someone the stylist’s famous faux lob — which also incorporates extensions — you can always pick up a gift certificate for Michael’s Scarsdale salon.
For a (slightly) more budget-friendly option, Michael recommends a nice set of products. “If you want to give someone a gift and you don’t want to break the bank, invest in a good shampoo and conditioner for that person,” he told us.
“My favorite is from Oribe. It’s so rich with moisturizers. It smells amazing. Oribe’s on the pricier side … it’s an amazing gift to give someone. You’re spending over $100, but you’re also giving them a gift that they’re going to see every day. They’ll see the results.”
Michael also uses Oribe Free Styler Working Hairspray ($42) to create his famous power pony look with a Pulleez tie ($13). “They are an investment that will last look after look,” he noted.
When it comes to hot tools, Michael prefers those from Chi, including the brand’s Lava Hair Dryer ($179.99) and Lava Ceramic 1.25” Curling Iron ($64.99).
As for stocking stuffers? Michael recommends Beachwaver Velvet Scrunchies ($4.80), calling them “amazing.”
