Meghan Trainor says her son Riley’s birth earlier this year was “terrifying.”
The “All About That Bass” singer revealed that Riley, who was breech and born via C-section, immediately experienced “breathing issues” after being born on Valentine’s Day.
“It was one of those horror stories where he didn’t cry,” Trainor, 27, said on the “Today” show this week. “He didn’t make noise when he came out. I was like, ‘Why isn’t he crying?’”
“It was terrifying,” she added.
Riley was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit and had a feeding tube inserted.
“I got to see him for one second before they took him away,” Trainor remembered. “That was probably the worst part.”
Thankfully, Trainor and husband Daryl Sabara got to take Riley home after five days.
Last month, the Grammy winner posted a video collection documenting Riley’s beginnings, which starts with Trainor FaceTiming him while he’s in the NICU and ends with sweet baby smiles.
“We had a rocky start..but Riley is perfect, happy and healthy 💙 so lucky to be your mama sweet boy,” Trainor captioned the video.
Trainor, who has previously spoken about her struggles with depression and anxiety, also revealed that she took a low dose of an antidepressant during her pregnancy.
“They told me, ‘If you’re happy, then your body will be happy and then your baby will happy,’ ” she explained on “Today,” adding that she hasn’t experienced any postpartum depression.
Trainor met 28-year-old Sabara, who starred in the “Spy Kids” franchise, at a house party in 2014. The pair got engaged in 2017 and married the following year.
