Since news of Neighbours’ untimely axing broke, fans have been speculating what the final moments of the show will entail.
The Aussie soap is set to conclude later this year, after production company Fremantle admitted that it has been unable to find another broadcast partner in the UK, following Channel 5’s decision to drop the show from their schedules.
Filming has already commenced for the final month-long on-air celebration, with the last ever episode set to transmit on August 1.
Wrapping up a show with a 37 year history is no easy feat, especially when one considers the amount of iconic moments that have unfolded in Ramsay Street throughout the decades.
With a plethora of fan-favourite characters from every era of the serial drama set to stage a comeback for the last ever episode, it really is anyone’s guess as to what will transpire in the final outing, let alone who will feature in the closing scene!
A leaked script, however, has reportedly been doing the rounds, and rumour has it that it reveals who will appear in the last ever scene.
Be warned, potential spoilers follow, so if you’d rather not know anything about how Neighbours will possibly wrap up, then look away now.
You still with us? Okay, good.
According to Popbitch, Neighbours will conclude just as Charlene and Scott Robinson (Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan) make their grand return to Ramsay Street after over 30 years away.
The duo will allegedly pull up in their car and exit the vehicle, taking a look around, before saying: ‘We’re home’.
it’s worth noting that this is unconfirmed, as Neighbours is understandably keeping its cards close to its chest.
What’s more, Popbitch notes that the leaked script may well be a decoy, designed to throw viewers off the scent.
Kylie and Jason, meanwhile, are set to reprise their iconic roles as Scott and Charlene ahead of the show’s finale.
A statement by soap boss Jason shared to Twitter on Sunday said that the programme was ‘thrilled’ to be welcoming them back.
‘Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them,’ the executive producer commented.
‘We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale…
‘It has been an emotional experience for them, for us and I’m sure it will be for our viewers.’
Herbison’s words were shared alongside two pictures that together formed a close-up shot of a Neighbours script, with the soap’s title, the names Scott and Charlene and the location of Ramsay Street.
These were the same pictures shared hours previously by Jason and Kylie on Instagram – one each – which sent fans into meltdown as they confirmed the onscreen couple’s return.
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1:45pm and 6pm on Channel 5.
