A teenager has transformed his diet after eating mostly chicken nuggets for his entire childhood.
David, 18, munched his way through more than 100 of them every week.
He eventually started eating other types of fast-food chicken but rarely touched anything else.
He said: “I was a very fussy eater. When I was really young, I’d only eat certain types of nuggets.
“But as I got older I started to venture out and ate things like chicken goujons and chicken dippers. I’d sometimes have sausage rolls and garlic bread too, but that was about it. I only ate food because I had to do it to stay alive.”
But the admin worker, inset right, from Darlington, Co Durham, has turned his life around thanks to television show Extreme Food Phobics.
During filming he was given a stark warning by TV doctor Ranj Singh. He said: “I was warned that chicken nuggets are high in salt, so in the long run my diet could cause me to have Type 2 diabetes. That opened my eyes. It was a wake-up call.”
David had therapy sessions and was talked into trying out new foods – and quitting nuggets for good.
He added: “Since I filmed the show my diet is much more varied. I still won’t eat rice or mash, but I’ll try everything else. I eat all sorts now.
“I’ve decided I’ll never eat chicken nuggets again.”
Extreme Food Phobics starts on Wednesday at 8pm on W
