DAVID LUIZ has extra motivation to impress new boss and former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard in a more united Blues set-up.

In the defender's first stint at the club, the pair won the Champions League and Europa League together – and the Brazilian reckons there could be more glory ahead.

And the 32-year-old is ready to take on extra responsibility to aid his new boss.

Luiz told the club website: “It’s great to see him here.

“He’s someone who knows what it means to be at Chelsea and understands the DNA of this club. We are working well so far, everyone is getting along and the sessions have been great.

“Lamps, or should I say ‘Gaffer’, is now our leader and he’s going to try to do everything he can like he did when he was a player, and now it’s up to us to help him build the spirit and the philosophy around the club to be successful.”

PEDRO has already been impressed with the start Frank Lampard has made to life as Chelsea manager.

The new Blues boss was denied a win in his first game in charge against Irish side Bohemian's last night, but the former Barcelona star has already spotted encouraging signs.

He said: ‘We’ve been training really hard with Frank this week.

“It’s very hard work, high intensity. We’re pressing a lot without the ball, when we’ve got the ball we have to move it quickly, and in transition (we have to be) very good.

“It’s very good to work under Frank. He’s a legend at this club. He’s a very good coach with very good ideas but it’s only five days working with him and for the future we have to prepare very well this month.”

CHELSEA flop Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly being targeted by West Ham on a season-long loan from Juventus to solve their striker crisis.

The striker, 31, has returned to Italy after failing to live up to expectations with AC Milan and the Blues last term.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Hammers have made their move for the 75-cap Argentina international.

West Ham have turned their attention to Higuain after failing to land Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have also sold Marko Arnautovic and Lucas Perez this summer and Andy Carroll's contract expired.
