    IN SOUMARY

Boubakary Soumare is not heading to Manchester United this month, it has been claimed.

The Lille star, 21, has set Ligue 1 alight and is being scouted regularly by the club.

But The Athletic maintain any move for the midfielder will not come until the summer.

    YEAR AND NOW

There is a fun little milestone on offer to further incentivise Manchester United on Sunday.

If they can come away with Anfield with at least a point, it will mark a whole calendar year without a Premier League defeat on the road.

In fact, it was Liverpool who last downed the Red Devils on their travels with a 2-0 victory on January 19, 2020.

    GOOD MORNING UNITED FANS

United hero Paul Pogba bade an emotional farewell to Timothy Fosu-Mensah as the new Premier League leaders prepare for Sunday's showdown with Liverpool.

Holland defender Fosu-Mensah, 23, has joined Bayer Leverkusen for £1.8million.

And Pogba, whose Tuesday winner at Burnley put United three points clear, admits he will miss his close friend.

He said: “My brother from another mother. Blessings to you bro.

“I don’t watch a lot of Germany, but now, we are going to miss you too much. Who is going to make me laugh?

"But I’m happy for you, too much.”

United have a staggering stat in their favour as they bid to win the Prem for the first time since 2013.

Eight of the last ten champions have been top after the same 17-game period.

In that past decade only Liverpool have not lifted the title after leading at this stage in – 2013-14 and 2018-19.

Meanwhile, Moises Caicedo is now tipped for Brighton after United reportedly ended their pursuit of the Ecuador and Independiente de Valle midfielder, 19.

    I'M AMAD WITH EXCITEMENT

Manchester United have officially unveiled Amad Diallo after the exciting winger reported to Carrington for the first time.

The 18-year-old – who completed his £37million switch to Old Trafford from Atalanta last week – has penned a contract until the summer of 2025.

Amad Diallo says he is 'hugely ambitious' and joining United is a 'dream come true'
Amad Diallo believes he is 'both physically and mentally' for joining such a big club as Man Utd

Diallo – who will wear the No19 shirt at the Theatre of Dreams – was shown around United's training facilities on Wednesday, before conducting an interview for the club.

Speaking recently, the Ivory Coast-born forward revealed it is a 'dream come true' to link up with United who agreed to sign him on deadline day in October.

He told United's website: "After waiting since the summer, it is finally a dream come true to complete my move to Manchester United.

"I am hugely ambitious and there is so much that I want to achieve in the game; when I spoke to the manager I knew that I had joined the perfect club.

"This is a really exciting squad with so many great players, I can promise that I will work hard every day to learn from them and give everything to develop my game.

"The coaches have been fantastic since I signed, we have been in touch regularly and they have already given me a lot of great advice.

“I have had time to prepare for this move, both physically and mentally, and I have worked really hard to be ready to make the step up to this amazing club.”

POGBA WARNS LIVERPOOL OF NEW UTD 'FOCUS'

PAUL POGBA believes Manchester United have a new-found focus which can turn them into champions.

His winner at Burnley put the Red Devils top of the Premier League for the first time in 40 MONTHS.

And victory at bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday would send them six points clear of Jurgen Klopp’s champions.

Pogba, 27, said: “Now we are there and we need to stay there. Now is the difficult part. Our heads are focused on the league and we need to keep it up and keep going.”

While the season has not even reached its halfway point, Pogba reckons United have made a huge statement by going top.

The £89million Frenchman added: “It is — and you know even for us and the fans it is great. But there is a long way to go.”

BARCA SNUBBED RON ‘N MESSI LINK-UP

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are sworn rivals, destined to divide fans in their fight to be considered football’s greatest of all time forever.

But it could have been so different, with Barcelona REJECTING the chance to sign Ronaldo and pair him with Messi for just £15million in 2003.

That summer, the Portuguese star was on the brink of leaving Sporting Lisbon after a rapid rise to prominence.

Of course, Ronaldo ultimately joined Manchester United and shot to superstardom before moving to Real Madrid six years later.

But now, Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has told Iniestazo: “We were about to sign Ronaldinho and Rafa Marquez.

“Marquez’s people proposed Cristiano Ronaldo to us. He was at Sporting at the time.

“One of his agents said that they had a player who they had sold to [Manchester] United for €19m, but they’d sell him to us for €17m.

“But we had already invested in Ronaldinho at the time. Cristiano played more out wide than in the centre. We thought we were covered, so we rejected him. I don’t regret it.”

    POGBA: WE'LL MISS MENSAH

Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly embraced Timothy Fosu-Mensah in an emotional goodbye as their Manchester United team-mate left for Bayer Leverkusen.

“I don’t watch a lot of Germany, but now, we are going to miss you too much. Who is going to make me laugh?

“We capture the moment, this day we will remember this. But I’m happy for you, too much.”

Versatile Holland star Fosu-Mensah, 23, has agreed a three-year Leverkusen deal.

The Bundesliga club's sporting director Simon Rolfes hailed him as a "technically adept, fast and physically strong defender who can be used both as a right-back and in the centre".

    SEAGULLS READY TO PINCH CAIC

Moises Caicedo is tipped for Brighton after Manchester United reportedly ended their pursuit of the Ecuador teen sensation.

The Manchester Evening News claim signing the Independiente de Valle midfielder, 19, became "too messy" because of many intermediaries.

Now Premier League rivals Brighton are said to be in "advanced talks" for a player who already has four full caps.

    BISHOP ON MOVE

United are looking to loan goalkeeper Nathan Bishop out to the EFL this month.

The stopper, 21, signed from Southend last year and then put pen to paper on a contract extension on Monday, tying him down at Old Trafford until 2023.

With Bishop behind David De Gea, Dean Henderson and Sergio Romero in the pecking order – and battling with Paul Woolston and Ondrej Mastny in the Under-23s – the club are trying to find somewhere for him to build experience.

And it is thought United want to send the former England U20 international to the Championship or League One.

STATS GOTTA HURT FOR AUBAMEYANG, HAVERTZ, GREENWOOD

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the Premier League’s biggest under-performer so far this season, according to supercomputer data.

The Arsenal striker is joined by a sprinkling of big-name rivals from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United in the 2020-21 below-par XI.

Aubameyang, 31, has just three League goals so far this season which is seven worse than the ten he had managed by this time last season.

The Gabonese’s form has fallen off a cliff since he signed his mega-money £350,000-a-week contract in September.

And stats collated by Fantasy5’s supercomputer – which uses an algorithm based on fantasy football scoring systems – back it up.

Chelsea’s £72million summer arrival Kai Havertz also makes the XI, alongside Arsenal’s Willian and Wolves’ Joao Moutinho in midfield.

Manchester United teenager Mason Greenwood is alongside Aubameyang up front, having struggled for game time after a scintillating 2019-20.

Greenwood’s club-mate Luke Shaw takes the left-back slot.

    IT'S TIM TO GO

Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has quit Old Trafford to join Bayer Leverkusen.

The Dutch ace, 23, has moved for a fee of £1.8million and will link-up with the third-placed Bundesliga side after passing a medical.

He is believed to have signed a deal until June 2024 at the German club.

Fosu-Mensah made his Red Devils debut in 2016 alongside Marcus Rashford but the two have taken very different paths at United.

He had moved to Carrington from Ajax's youth system as a 16-year-old in 2014.

Fosu-Mensah spent time on loan at London sides Crystal Palace and Fulham to aid his development.

But after 30 appearances for United, Fosu-Mensah has left permanently with his contract running down.

HISTORY SUGGESTS UTD'S 7-YEAR GLITCH WILL END

New leaders Manchester United have a staggering stat in their favour as they bid to win the Premier League for the first time since 2013.

Eight of the last ten champions have been top after the same 17-game period.

Paul Pogba's deflected volley put United three points clear of champions Liverpool withTuesday's 1-0 win over Burnley.

And in the past decade only Liverpool have not lifted the title after leading 17 matches in – during 2013-14 and 2018-19.

But the Red Devils have been mired in mediocrity since legendary boss Alex Ferguson retired seven years ago, often limping into the European places.

Now they host Liverpool on Sunday with the chance of moving an incredible six points ahead of a team they finished 22 behind last term.

    BRU'S THE DADDY

Bruno Fernandes has "single-handedly" turned Manchester United into title contenders, according to Jamie Redknapp.

The midfielder helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side move three points clear at the top of the Premier League after their 1-0 win at Burnley ahead of Sunday's clash at second-placed Liverpool, who finished 22 points above United last season.

Pundit Redknapp told Sky Sports: "I think since he’s come to the club he’s single-handedly changed the mentality of it. The goals he’s scored, the assists he’s made.

"I’ve seen an attitude shift in the players because I think he demands such high standards.

"I think when he plays well, when he scores United play well. It’s as simple as that. He’s changed players around him.

"Before he came you feared for Ole. I mean you feared for him earlier on in the season when he lost 1-0 at Arsenal. I did the game and I thought he’s running out of time here but he’s turned it around.

"He’s had some bad results in the cup but their league form has been tremendous. So you have to credit him for that, but one man has changed that.

"When you talk about the 22 points, that’s been Bruno Fernandes."

    ALD NEWS

Liverpool icon John Aldridge has threatened to wind up United fans by claiming they'd be outside the top four without Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.

Reported in the Liverpool Echo, he said: "You can give the strikers as much finishing as they want or work through drills with the defence but Jurgen Klopp will be making his players aware of what United are good at this week.

“What they are good at is getting the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford on the ball – they’re the danger.

“The rest of their team is pretty ordinary, they’d be coming in fifth or sixth place but those two make them into a team."

    'MORE LIKE A MAVERICK'

Gary Neville wants to see Paul Pogba back on the left flank despite his impressive display against Burnley.

He told Sky Sports: "I really think Pogba's far better when he plays off that left-hand side forward position because it frees him up.

"It makes him more like a maverick, he can go and do his little one-on-ones, his little tricks.

"I think when he plays deeper, he sometimes stands still and plays and tries to look for the killer pass too early."

Pogba, 27, scored the only goal of the game against Burnley from his midfield role.

    ABIDE WITH THE RULES

All clubs left in the FA Cup have been warned they will face penalties for breaching Covid regulations.

Wembley beaks moved to draft the letter to the 33 teams that currently remain in the competition after a series of weekend incidents during the third round.

The letter was said to “strongly reiterate the importance of complete compliance” with Covid protocols and Government legislation.

Premier League and EFL bosses will send out similar letters to their individual members as football braces against calls for a shutdown if regulations are not followed.
