Jets fire Adam Gase

Adam Gase may go back to school to get his coaching career on track.

After being fired by the Jets Sunday night, the 42-year-old Gase is among the options Alabama head coach Nick Saban is considering to fill the team’s offensive coordinator vacancy, according to The Athletic.

Gase worked for Saban at Michigan State as a student and followed him to LSU, where they worked together for three years before Gase made the jump to the NFL as a Lions assistant.

Fired Texans coach and ex-Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien is also among the candidates, according to the report. Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian took the head coaching job at Texas after the Longhorns canned Tom Herman.

Gase was fired after a nightmarish 2-14 Jets season which began with 13 straight losses. He finished his two-year Jets tenure with a 9-23 record.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick heaped praise on Gase ahead of their Week 17 meeting, and there’s been buzz in New England about Belichick being interested in adding Gase to his staff.
