Brighton sub Leon Balogun scores with first touch after just 25 seconds on pitch against Crystal Palace

The Nigerian's effort to make it 2-0 was the second quickest goal by a substitute in the Premier League this season.

Balogun, 30, was put onto the pitch to replace Pascal Gross after Shane Duffy was sent off for his brutal headbutt on Patrick van Aanholt.

Chris Hughton's side were 1-0 up at the time after Glenn Murray scored from the spot to break the deadlock.

But Balogun quickly found the net to secure his first ever Premier League goal for the Seagulls.

After a corner kick was sent into the box, the ball fell into his path and he slotted it past Wayne Hennessey.

He scored 25 seconds after coming – which is just one second slower than Daniel Sturridge's strike against West Ham this season.

The home side made it 3-0 before half-time after Florin Andone added himself to the score sheet.

But fans on Twitter found the time to praise Balogun, with one even claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo would be proud of the strike.

It read: "What a GOAL by Leon Balogun. What a strike. What a hit. Even Cristiano Ronaldo would be proud of that. "

Another added: "Leon Balogun just scored a beauty for Brighton. What a goal!".

Balogun penned a two-year deal with Brighton in May after previous spells with Mainz 05, Darmstadt 98 and Werder Bremen in his earlier years.
