JOE COLE will be in familiar territory on Sunday, as he returns to Stamford Bridge for this year's Soccer Aid charity match.
The ex-Chelsea midfielder enjoyed a long and fruitful career in England and abroad – but what has he been doing since he retired?
How old is Joe Cole?
Cole was born November 8, 1981 in Paddington, London – that makes him 37 years old.
He started his career at West Ham, joining their academy in 1990 and rising through the ranks with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Frank Lampard.
The midfielder married fitness instructor Carly Zucker in 2009 after seven years dating and have two children together – daughter Ruby, 9, and son Harrison, 6.
What clubs did Cole play for?
After spending the first five years of his professional career at Upton Park, Cole earned a move to Chelsea in the beginning of Roman Abramovich's revolution at the Blues.
But injuries and a lack of playing time saw him end his seven-year stay at Stamford Bridge by heading to Liverpool on a free transfer.
Despite playing frequently in his first campaign, the Reds sent him to Lille on loan – where it has been widely reported him persuaded their star man Eden Hazard to join Chelsea.
After struggling for action upon his return to Liverpool, Cole rejoined his old club West Ham but encountered similar problems.
In the final years of his career, the midfielder turned out for Aston Villa, Coventry City and USA's Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Cole retired November 2018, winning eight trophies in his career, including three Premier League titles.
What is Cole doing now?
Since retiring, Cole has returned to Chelsea to get involved in coaching the academy, having already completed his Uefa A license.
While he has been working a various youth levels so far, he could be handed his own team for next season.
But this Sunday, he will leave the dugout and take to the field, as he takes part for England in this year's Soccer Aid match.
