SunSport racing expert has picked apart the 3.00 field and revealed his fancy…

I've long fancied COPPERHEAD (3.00 Newbury) for the Ladbrokes Trophy, and for all I'd like to see the Colin Tizzard yard in better form I'm going to stick with him.

He was progressive over fences last season, winning in a hack canter over C&D before he destroyed the opposition (Two For Gold a distant second) in the Reynoldstown on testing ground at Ascot.

I reckon that performance left a mark as he was pretty laboured in the RSA at Cheltenham and was well-held when falling at the last, but the Tizzard team also had a quiet week at the Festival.

You can forgive his reappearance effort at Wetherby, when he was pulled up three out in the West Yorkshire Hurdle, as Joe Tizzard has been on record saying how their's are generally needing the run this year after an extra month out in the field putting on timber because of lockdown.

Copperhead is a big, strapping beast and his first outing smacked of a horse who'd had one too many days out munching spring grass.

He goes back over fences now and there is no doubt in my mind he is better than his mark of 152.

This big-field, strong gallop scenario will suit, he is a fantastic jumper and his has been a long-term aim. He's a horse I have a lot of faith in.

Sun Racing has a fancy in the 1.50.

And already the odds have gone from 14-1 to 9-1.

    HANG IN THERE (1.50 Newbury)

This son of Yeats was in top form this time last year when winning a Cheltenham Grade 2 with plenty in hand.

He hasn’t matched that form since then but he’s right down the weights and is only six so has time to find his old sparkle.

Capable Ben Jones takes a valuable 3lb off his back and it would be no surprise to see him hit the frame.

In fact, as I'm feeling generous, here are all his tips for Newbury in one plase.

    See any you fancy?

    12.10 Mrs Hyde

Got the job done well in this class at Wetherby latest.

    12.40 Southfield Stone

Showing promise over fences and capable of better.

    1.15 Cap Du Nord

Sneaks in off bottom weight and good comeback last time.

    1.50 Tea Clipper (nb)

Made it four wins in five runs latest and can defy 7lb rise.

    2.25 Marie’s Rock

Had a wind op ahead of comeback and could be a star.

    3.00 Vinndication

Solid performer who has good form at the highest level.

Good second in Haldon Gold Cup latest and this is easier.

And what a Saturday treat we have in store from Newbury.

The big race is at 3.00 – but Templegate (who had a 7-2 winner on Friday) has his main fancy running after that…

    MOONLIGHTER (3.35 Newbury, Nap)

He clocked a big personal best when beaten a neck in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter last time.

It was all the better because Nick Williams’ hope was jumping out to the left at that right-handed track.

He was much happier on his last visit here when winning over this trip and he can repeat the feat.
