Marc Overmars wants Arsenal job after Monchi snubs technical director role

ARSENAL legend Marc Overmars wants to return to the Premier League and become the club's new technical director.

Overmars, 45, is in the same role at Dutch giants Ajax but could be in line for a move back to his former club after Arsenal failed to land Monchi.

It appeared as though former Roma director Monchi would accept the job after leaving the Italian side.

Monchi and Unai Emery enjoyed a successful partnership at Sevilla where the duo led the club to three Europa League titles.

But reports claim the 50-year-old is set to snub the Gunners in favour of returning to the Spanish club.

Arsenal have been looking to fill the void left by Sven Mislintat, who quit as head of recruitment in November.

And according to, Overmars wants to be considered for the vacant position and key figures at Ajax have learnt of his desire.

Ajax, who face Juventus in the last eight of the Champions League, are reluctant to see him leave but know they may be powerless compared to Arsenal's budget.

Overmars spent three years at Highbury between 1997 and 2000 before he joined Barcelona.

And would waste no time in helping the Gunners in the transfer market by revealing he'd fight tooth and nail to sign Matthijs de Ligt.

He told AS: "For me, De Ligt can play easily on any of the six best teams in the world right now.

"He has the power, the mentality, the heart. If I worked at another club, I would like to sign him immediately.

"We do not need to sell him, we do not need the money, but I know he will go to one of the big clubs [eventually]."
