The breakout star of the MLB postseason is in trouble with the law.
Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena was detained in Mexico over a domestic dispute in which he allegedly assaulted his former father-in-law and attempted to leave with his daughter without permission from the child’s mother, his ex-wife.
ESPN confirmed the report by Mexican newspaper Yucatán Ahora and said MLB is looking into the matter. Since the incident is family-related, discipline would fall under MLB’s domestic violence policy.
A video of the incident was released in which a crowd congregated and a police officer was present. Arozarena is heard speaking in Spanish, saying, “Why can’t I be with my daughter, I’m the one that gives her everything?”
The 25-year-old Arozarena became a huge postseason star, hitting .377 with 10 homers and 14 RBIs in 20 playoff games for the Rays. He was named the MVP of the ALCS.
