‘Tiger King’ is getting a bonus episode: Here’s what you need to know

With everyone staying inside these days, we all turned to Netflix to provide us with entertainment and the streaming service delivered. At the perfect time, Netflix premiered a documentary series called “Tiger King” that has taken over televisions across the country.

According to Variety, more than 34 million people watched “Tiger King” within the first 10 days of its premiere. The docu-series was seven episodes long, but thanks to the immense popularity, Netflix has decided to release a bonus episode.

We kind of knew this was coming, as Jeff Lowe revealed as much earlier this month. But Netflix confirmed the episode in an announcement Thursday night.

What is the ‘Tiger King’ bonus episode?

The bonus episode won’t be like the original seven episodes. Netflix describes it as an “after show” hosted by Joel McHale.

“I talked to a lot of people involved in the project … to see what’s happened in their lives since the release of the series,” McHale says. “It’s eye-opening and hopefully funny.”

‘Tiger King’ bonus episode release date

Netflix will premiere the “Tiger King” bonus episode on April 12. Shows on Netflix typically release at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT on the days they’re scheduled to premiere.

Who is in the ‘Tiger King’ bonus episode?

Some of the main characters of the show are not appearing in the bonus episode, for various reasons. Joe Exotic, as you know if you watched the show, is serving a 22-year sentence in federal prison. Carole Baskin wrote a lengthy blog post on the reasons she didn’t like how she was portrayed in the show. When asked by EW about the bonus episode, a representative for Baskin said, “We have not been approached about a new episode and would not participate if asked.” Doc Antle will also not be participating in the bonus episode.

What other ‘Tiger King’ content can I watch?

As of now it appears this bonus episode will be the last of the “Tiger King” content on Netflix. But the Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin saga will continue on elsewhere. The television network Investigation Discovery announced it will be releasing a series titled “Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic.”

While not actually affiliated with the Netflix show, ID is billing the show as the “definitive sequel” to “Tiger King.” In a release for the show, ID says its series will show “the investigation you didn’t get to see, revealing the secrets only Joe knows, the exclusive footage that has never been shown and the search to answer the one question every person in America is asking themselves right now: although she’s denied it, is Carole Baskin responsible for the disappearance of her husband, Don Lewis?”

ID has not released a premiere date for its show.
