Will racing go ahead? Hereford the latest course to call inspection as cold weather continues to cause havoc

THE ongoing cold snap wiped out most of last week's jumps fixtures in Britain.

And Monday's card at Hereford is the latest meeting to come under threat, with temperatures expected to plummet overnight.

Fixtures at Ludlow, Ffos Las, Musselburgh, Ayr and Taunton were lost to the freezing weather last week, while Sunday's Grade 1 card at Naas in Ireland was also lost to frost.

The ground at Hereford was described on Sunday as heavy, frozen in places and frost covers have been deployed across the course.

The mercury hit -4C on Saturday and course officials have called an inspection for 7.30am, with similar temperatures forecast before racing.

However, the track are cautiously optimistic that it'll warm up enough for the meeting to get the green light.

Fairyhouse have also called an inspection on Monday morning for their Tuesday card, but the outlook is bleak.

A statement from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board read: "The track at Fairyhouse remains unfit for racing due to a small number of frozen areas.

"There is an improving forecast, with rising temperatures over the coming days, and a further inspection of the track will take place at 1pm on Monday ahead of the fixture scheduled to take place on Tuesday."

There are no anticipated problems at Doncaster on Monday, with temperatures forecast to be a balmy 8C.

Exeter's card went ahead by the skin of it's teeth after surviving three inspections on Sunday morning.

Naas have rearranged their valuable meeting for Wednesday, when temperatures are expected to rise.

Both Leicester and Sedgefield, due to race on Wednesday and Friday respectively, report that they're tracks are currently frozen.

However, both expect their meetings to go ahead given a favourable forecast for the week ahead.
