During the latest rerun of A Place in the Sun, Channel 4 presenter Scarlette Douglas was on a mission to find Martin his dream home in Valencia, Spain. The house hunter, who has been visiting Spain since he was a teenager, wanted to relocate to the Spanish countryside. Martin, who had a budget of £130,000 to spend, also brought his brother Arthur along with him for support. However, Scarlette didn’t get off to the best of starts after Martin shut down the first property straight away.
Martin explained to the property expert he was looking for a three-bedroom villa that came with a swimming pool and garden so he could grow some vegetables.
He also needed his holiday home to be close to bars, restaurants and supermarkets.
The first property Scarlette took the siblings to was a three-bed villa.
Martin seemed unsure as they looked at the property from the outside as he simply commented: “Interesting.”
As they viewed the living space, Martin and Arthur seemed pleasantly surprised at how spacious it was.
Although, things took a turn when they viewed the bedrooms and the kitchen.
“It’s a bit cramped,” Martin pointed out as he told Scarlette: “It doesn’t work for me!”
A helpless Scarlette was left deflated as Martin pulled no punches in crossing property number one off his list.
The second property was located near the town centre and was a lot more spacious.
“This is very nice,” Martin said as they stood outside the four-bed villa.
However, Arthur gasped when Scarlette explained the holiday home was priced way about Martin’s budget at £153,000.
Despite being priced above his budget, Martin seemed to be impressed when they had a look at the property inside.
The only downfall was the fact the pool wasn’t dug deep enough into the ground.
The third property had five bedrooms and plenty of outdoor space.
Arthur and Martin seemed to be blown away by the holiday home as they simply commented: “Wow!”
After viewing the property, the buyer told Scarlette the villa was “another contender”.
He went on to rule out the second property completely after falling in love with the third property.
The fourth property didn’t seem to impress the duo as it needed a lot of renovation work.
“It’s not for me,” Martin said. “For me, it is a no-no!”
The fifth and final property was also a winner for Scarlette as both Arthur and Martin loved it.
When it came to making a decision, Martin decided to put in an offer for the fifth property however his first offer of £122,000 was shut down by the current owner.
He later increased his offer to £127,000, although once again it was refused by the owner.
After offering £128,000, his offer was finally accepted.
A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
