Anton Du Beke divides Strictly Come Dancing fans as he sings live: ‘Not what I’m here for’

Strictly Come Dancing finally returned for its latest series tonight with 12 more celebrities waiting so see which professional dancer they would be paired with. Tonight, the professionals kicked off proceedings with a host of stunning pre-recorded routines which saw Anton Du Beke take to the microphone as he sang ‘It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),’ while his fellow dancers took to the floor. But fans were left unsure over the move and soon took to social media this evening to give their verdict. 

Anton has been on the programme ever since it started back in 2004.

Tonight saw him make a return for the latest series and he was seen singing as part of one of the professionals’ performances. 

But fans couldn’t help but comment on Anton’s singing, with some not convinced by his performance

One said on Twitter: “Anton singing. Why? #strictly,” with another sharing: “Ahahahaha Anton singing #SCD #Strictly.”

Another added: “Behave yourself, Anton. That is not what I’m here for. #strictly.”

A third wrote: “#Strictly  Don’t sing Anton.  There’s a good chap.”

But many had a much more positive reaction to his performance this evening, with one sharing: “Okay, I am so here for Anton as a silver fox! #Strictly.”

“Anton singing and propping up the bar is my favourite thing he’s done in years #Strictly,” said another.
