The highly-anticipated trailer for “Avengers 4” is finally here. Officially called “Avengers: Endgame“, the title is one of the major reveals obtained from the more than two-minute video that mostly focuses on how the remaining heroes deal with the loss after the end of “Avengers: Infinity War“.
Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is drifted in space after their attempt to stop Thanos in Titan failed. Running out of food, water and oxygen, he leaves a message to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) with his semi-wrecked Iron Man helmet. He’s not alone on the spaceship though, as Nebula also (Karen Gillan) survives Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) snap and is later seen in the trailer.
All are mourning, including Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Bruce Banner a.k.a. Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who flips through the images of those who are missing. “All of us,” Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America (Chris Evans) says, as tear runs down his face. “We lost friends, we lost family.”
Elsewhere in the video, Thanos enjoys peaceful solitude after reaching his goal. His armor is propped up like a scarecrow and he walks through a field of plants that he seemingly grows.
But when all hope seems lost, Steve and Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) are not ready to give up yet. They seem to hatch a plan, with Steve saying, “This is the fight of our lives.” Natasha hopefully adds, “This is going to work, Steve.”
While it’s unclear what they’re planning for, it may lead Natasha to meet Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), who in the trailer appears to take the mantle of Ronin instead of Hawkeye. Another old friend unexpectedly returns when Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) shows up in the front door of the Avengers headquaters. Scott was stuck in the Quantum Realm in “Ant-Man and the Wasp“, but he appears to have found a way out to escape.
Marvel has not released an official synopsis for the movie and only accompanies the trailer with a logline that reads, “Part of the journey is the end.”
Anthony and Joe Russo direct “Avengers: Endgame”, which is set for a U.S. release on April 26, 2019, a week before its initial release date.
