Coronation Street newcomer Curtis Delamere (played by Sam Retford) is living with a heart condition that could end his life at any point. Curtis made his first appearance on the ITV soap in May and since then he has gotten into a relationship with Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell). Curtis has been determined to complete medical school, but could a major health setback in upcoming scenes lead him to follow a different path?

In an episode yet to air on the ITV soap, Curtis will confide in Emma about his studies.

He opens up to her about an exam he is due to sit as he’s concerned he won’t do very well as his medication makes it harder to concentrate.

A supportive Emma decides to borrow books from Aggie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw) to help him revise.

However, when Emma shows Curtis the textbooks she borrowed from Aggie, he asserts that he’ll stick with his online diagrams and the books belong in the bin.

Later on, Emma confides in her dad Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) that Curtis has gone missing.

He has an exam that same day but has convinced himself he might not live long enough to graduate.

A concerned Steve goes searching for Curtis and manages to track him down in Victoria Garden.

He catches up with Curtis and tries to gently persuade him not to give up and offers him a lift to his exam.

However, Steve’s car fails to start so Curtis gets out and tries to give it a push to get it going

But as the car leaps into life, Curtis falls to his knees and clutches his chest in agony.

He is then taken to the hospital to be looked at by doctors who are aware he lives with an undiagnosed heart condition.

In the hospital, Curtis plays down the seriousness of his situation and assures Emma that all he needs is rest and he’s free to go home.

Back at the flat, Curtis has a shock proposal for Emma – but will she say yes?

Later on, Steve tells Emma that he and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) would like to use their personal savings to pay for Curtis to see a private consultant.

Curtis ends up telling Emma he’s overwhelmed by her family’s kindness and he’s decided to drop out of medical school so that he can spend every second with her.

Does this mean Curtis will pack up medical school for good and focus on his and Emma’s future together as husband and wife?

If Emma turns down his proposal, what will direction will Curtis go in?

Whatever the outcome, Curtis’ health remains a priority to his loved ones – so will he take up Emma’s family’s offer to see a private consultant?

Along with the support of Emma, Curtis could undergo more tests at the hospital to determine how his heart condition will have a greater impact on his life.

Coronation Street airs Mondays and Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
