Dancing On Ice’s most iconic moments as ITV show returns with big changes

Dancing On Ice skates back on to our TVs next weekend with big changes – but hopefully none of the heart-stopping moments we’ve rounded up here.

Jason Donovan, Denise Van Outen and Rebekah Vardy will be among the celebs lacing up their boots and
donning sequins.

For the first time the stars will skate in an audience-free studio at Bovingdon Airfield, Herts. The judges’ table has perspex screens to separate Torvill and Dean, John Barrowman and Ashley Banjo.

And the skaters will sit at socially distanced tables to watch each other in action, to meet Covid rules.

A show source said: “Everyone needs a bit of glitz and glamour in their life right now.

“ITV showed they could do it with I’m A Celebrity and now they are doing it again with Dancing On Ice.”

The celebs and pro skaters are raring to hit the rink.

Vanessa Bauer, 24, who this year is partnered with Emmerdale actor Joe Warren-Plant, 18, said: “We’re very determined to train as hard as we can to bring you some light on TV during these difficult times. I’m so ready for it.

“Last year all my summer projects got cancelled and I had to get on with an ‘ordinary’ life at home. But I truly believe this forced break was one of the best things to happen to me.”

It would not be Dancing On Ice without a dose of drama. But can this year’s action top the crazy moments of series past?

Viewers will never forget when David “Safe Hands” Seaman dropped his partner Pam O’Connor during the headbanger move.

Then there was the fall by Gemma Collins, who tumbled face down during a routine to Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back To Me Now.

While Pamela Anderson ’s “nip slip” caused a giggle when a wardrobe malfunction saw her chest break for freedom. The ex-Baywatch beauty said: “I stumbled, my boobs fell out. It’s common in my life.”

Corrie star Antony Cotton fractured several ribs during training – but insisted on skating that weekend, saying: “Hopefully the painkillers and sequins will see us through.”

But none of that was quite as scary as the moment former soap star Jennifer Ellison cut her head open with her own skate blade, while performing a “scorpion kick”.

But EastEnders ’ Todd Carty brought laughs when he careered off the rink mid-routine. Host Phillip Schofield said he went “off the ice like a bolting cart horse” and it was his favourite ever show moment.

Viewers will hope for a judges spat this year. But no row beats Tim Healy having a go at Jason Gardiner, inset, for criticising wife Denise Welch.

He ranted: “She’s 52 and she’s got four jobs. How many jobs have you got?”

Dancing On Ice returns next Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
