Emmerdale viewers have seen Andrea Tate (played by Anna Nightingale) and Jamie Tate (Alexander Lincoln) at loggerheads for months after the former’s affair broke the pair’s marriage up. But with Andrea desperately having tried to get back with Jamie for good, he instead continued his romance with Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper). After weeks of blackmailing the vet and upping her methods to keep him around, Andrea finally admitted defeat and left with daughter Millie (Willow Bell) tonight – but fans were left asking what “the point was” of the scorned wife’s erratic behaviour in recent weeks.

Andrea and Jamie were involved in more tense scenes this evening after weeks of their future together becoming increasingly uncertain.

Jamie has been seen on a downward spiral after being secretly responsible for the hit-and-run on Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb).

Andrea soon used her knowledge of the incident to her advantage and has been blackmailing Jamie into staying with her to keep quiet about what she knows.

But tonight, she gave up any chance of staying with him for good and decided to leave the Dales – again.

Fans of the soap have been left confused, however, at why the ITV series had seen weeks of Andrea’s increasingly destructive behaviour, just to end up in a last-minute U-turn.

Some of those watching took to Twitter to ask why Andrea had ended up taking to such extreme measures just weeks before.

One wrote: “So the point of Andrea going all crazy was? #emmerdale.”

Another replied: “I suspect she was being used to further Jamie’s storyline… which sucks because it kind of spoiled her character in the process.”

“So Andrea goes to all these lengths and then gives up on Jamie in an instant? Meh. I was hoping we had the next big soap b***h on our hands! #Emmerdale,” said a third.

A fourth asked: “How many times is Andrea going to say I’m leaving Jamie. The most just keep repeating scripts #emmerdale.”

“#Emmerdale so all of a sudden Andrea just does an about-turn,” shared another fan.

After Andrea had spent the night at Priya Sharma’s (Fiona Wade) with the pair’s daughter, she quickly made her mind up about her decision.

Andrea told him: “I came back early, I’m leaving Jamie. I’ve got Millie in the car,” to which he pleaded: “What? You can’t.”

“I just need some time to think, Jamie. Away from here, away from you,” she replied. “Our daughter’s happiness is all I care about.”

“But this? We’re destroying each other,” she added, with Jamie also apologising for the way he had treated Andrea.

Andrea concluded: “I’m just as much to blame, we pushed each other too far. What kind of woman tries to blackmail her own husband?

“We’re a mess. Our daughter’s suffering… all because I thought I could make you love me.”

Jamie soon realised there was nothing he could do after Andrea’s mind had been made up and he let her flee once more.

However, with the actress not in-line to be exiting the soap, it’s unlikely Andrea will be gone for long – particularly as Jamie’s storyline continues to develop.

Viewers already saw Andrea leave with her daughter Millie and take her to a nearby hotel back in June, only telling best friend Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) where she was.

However, when Jamie got the police involved, Andrea was soon found and later returned her daughter back home to Home Farm.

Elsewhere tonight, viewers saw Belle continue to feel conflicted over Jamie’s crime when she bumped into sister-in-law Moira.

As Belle quizzed a blissfully-unaware Moira on the culprit’s identity, the farmer said: “They still might get caught and anger never changes anything. You only need to look at Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Nate (Jurell Carter) to see that.

“The way I see it, I’m still here. The strange thing is, I’m still hopeful about my future than I ever was,” Moira added.

Will Belle end up telling all to Moira about Jamie’s wrongdoings or will she decide to keep it to herself?

Emmerdale airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
