In the latest instalment of Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend, the couple, famous for their epic renovation of the Chateau de la Motte-Husson in 2016, were on hand to give their unique DIY advice to those needing it. Angel Adoree, 43, was talking about the importance of having space and said although the couple do everything together, it would be “irritating” if they didn’t also have their own space. But Dick Strawbridge, 61, took the statement badly, admitting he was hurt and he wouldn’t have said it “out loud.”

The couple were chatting about Amy, who was after her dream summerhouse, which she hoped could be something “completely her own.”

She added that she needed Angel’s creativity and eye for design in order to get the perfect place just for her.

“Space is important though,” Angel said. She turned to Dick and said: “I mean we do everything together right?”

“But you have your office and I have mine, and before that it could sometimes feel a bit irritating and -” she trailed off as Dick looked stunned at her comments.

Laughing, she continued: “But it is!” Dick replied: “That was so hurtful”

“But you know what I mean?” She asked the father-of-four.

“Of course I know what you mean!” He remarked. “But I just didn’t say it out loud!”

While speaking to Angel, Amy explained: “I just want somewhere that I can go to and read a book, go and chill and just be outside.”

She added: “I did fashion at university and I love crafting and making things.”

She explained to Angel that she had boxes full of items collected over the years to use.

“Primarily, it will be your space,” Angel replied. “But when your friends come over it will be cocktail hour!”

She asked Amy if she was after something that could be used year-round, and Dick was on hand to offer some insulating suggestions.

“Commenting on Amy’s taste in vibrant colours, Angel commented: “It’s going to be Amy’s emporium of colour!”

Vintage creativity guru Angel ended up combining Amy’s love for craft and artwork by creating some cactus cushions.

She explained: “She’s going to need the felt, she’s going to need some pot and she’ll need a needle and thread.

“It’s just what you would think of a cactus in a dessert, I guess.

“I think it looks quite cool, it is just a matter of drawing around them and cutting them out.”

“Do you want to do one of these with me?” She asked Dick.

“Um, no,” he responded, laughing. She continued to create more shapes and designs to complete the look of the bright summerhouse.

The husband and wife team have built a huge fan base since they decided to up sticks and leave their home to renovate a French chateau into a home and thriving business.

Channel 4 has followed the couples’ progress ever since, and viewers admire their creative and practical skills which they utilise daily at the chateau.

Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend airs Thursdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
