Netflix smash hit series Virgin River is returning for a third series this week and OK! couldn't be more excited to see how our favourite Nurse Practitioner is getting on after a rather dramatic end to series two.
When the show – which was made in the US – hit Netflix during the first lockdown in 2020 it gave us the perfect series to binge on. And now, as it returns to the the streaming service this week, OK! couldn't be happier.
Here's everything you need to know about the series…
What is Virgin River?
If you're not up to speed with the Netflix smash, here's a quick summary. Nurse Practitioner Mel (This is Us Alexandra Breckenridge) is used to city life after spending years in Los Angeles, but after the dramatic death of her husband, Mel needs change.
She accepts a post in a small sleepy town in Northern California – you guess it, called Virgin River – and gets stuck in to living a more remote life. Being such a small town, there are plenty of nosey neighbours who are keen to get to know more about their newest resident, and Mel soon finds herself tempted by hunky bar owner Jack (played by Martin Henderson), who is battling a fair few demons himself.
When is Season 3 on?
After wrapping up it's second season in December 2020, Netflix haven't left us waiting too long for another installation, as the third season will air in the UK from the 9th July.
Will we find out what happened after THAT cliff hanger?
Look away now if you haven't finished the second series yet, because final episode of season two left us uncertain as to whether handsome hero Jack would survive. In the closing scenes of the show, Mel finds Jack bleeding out on the floor of his bar after suffering what seemed to be a bullet wound. It's unclear exactly who shot Jack just yet, but he's alive and kicking in the trailer, so we can only assumed he lived to tell the tale.
Mel and Jack are together, but it's not smooth sailing
After questioning whether they'd ever get together in the last two seasons, we were finally rewarded with a Jack and Mel love scene. Only, our high hopes for the pair seemed dashed when Jack's ex Charmaine (played by Lauren Hammersley) revealed she was pregnant with Jack's baby – which then turned out to be twins! But after helping to nurse Jack back to health, it looks as though things are well and truly on for our fave Virgin River love birds.
Only, things don't look too happy. When Mel questions whether she might want to try for a baby (remember she lost her first child full term with her late husband and wasn't sure if she could have children) it throws a spanner in the works. Jack is struggling with fatherhood and isn't sure if he's the right man for Mel to try again with. Cue plenty of dramatic scenes.
The trailer looks SUPER dramatic
Along with baby gate, we also see Charmaine announce she's got a new man in her life. Jack's best pal Preacher (aka the dreamy Colin Lawrence) is seen struggling with his new role of protector to young Christopher, who he took on after helping Paige cover up the accidental killing of her ex husband, Wes.
Elsewhere, it looks as though things aren't great for the town's doctor, affectionately named Doc, as he reveals to Mel he might be going blind. Meanwhile, Charmaine has a new boyfriend, Todd, who is apparently great with kids (cue a worried looking Jack.)
