Matt Czuchry spent three years playing Logan Huntzberger on Gilmore Girls. In the show’s final season, Logan went through a metamorphosis. He went from an irresponsible party boy to a businessman ready to take the next step with his love, Rory Gilmore. The The Resident Star reprised his role as Logan in the 2016 Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The revival didn’t do wonders for his character. In fact, fans mourned the marked character regression. While Czuchry has refused to defend Logan, he did once reveal what he wanted fans to take away from his portrayal of Logan in the revival.
Logan Huntzberger in season 7 was substantially different than Logan in the revival
Logan made even enthusiastic Jess Mariano fans swoon several times during season 7 of Gilmore Girls. He blossomed into a man who stood up for himself and walked away from his rich but overbearing family. Logan showed up for Rory, treated her well, and even planned a life for them together. It wasn’t meant to be. Rory turned down his proposal in the series finale.
When the revival dropped, fans found that Logan of yesteryear had returned, much to their dismay. Logan wasn’t working on his own; instead, he lived in London and was engaged to a woman his family approved of. He was also having an affair with Rory. Rory was also dating someone, though she barely remembered the poor man’s name.
Matt Czuchry wanted fans to understand that Logan’s fiancée, Odette, and his affair with Rory represented his life
Czuchry once said he would not defend Logan’s actions but understands why fans walked in on the character straddling two different worlds. If you think about it, it wasn’t so strange. Before season 7 of Gilmore Girls, which Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino did not write, Logan spent his entire life conflicted about his desires and family obligations.
Czuchry hopes fans understand what was going on with Logan. In an interview with Time, Czuchry explained that he believes Odette represented his family obligation and Rory represented what he truly wanted. He went on to say that, to him, Logan was always and would always be in love with Rory. She was what he would have wanted in a perfect world. So, could Czuchry’s vision still happen? It technically could.
Would Matt Czuchry reprise his role again if a second revival happened?
There has been no official word on a second revival just yet, but over the years, multiple cast members have expressed interest in returning to Stars Hollow once more. Scott Patterson, the actor who portrayed Luke Danes, is open to the idea, and so is Lauren Graham, the actor who played Lorelai Gilmore. Czuchry has been decidedly enthusiastic about the prospect as recently as 2021.
In an interview with Us Magazine in 2021, Czuchry noted that he would be “lucky” to work with the cast and crew again. He even has an idea of how things should play out. He told the publication that Logan and Rory would be together if it were up to him. When the first revival ended, Logan was slated to walk down the aisle with Odette. Rory was pregnant, presumably with Logan’s baby.
