The programme then panned the camera over on the star walking towards Ruthie, who was curled up in her bed, shedding tears.

"Ruthie, are you okay? You alright? Just miss home?" Vernon said as he sat by her. "I think we've all had a dip to be honest with you. Everyone misses home."

"Really?" Ruthie replied as Vernon continued: "100 per cent, I know I have. I didn't think I'd be switching to the happy place as often as I am."

In the confessional, Ruthie then explained: "I'm such a tough cookie. You know I pride myself on being such a tough cookie, but I'm really not. And nobody sees me like that, they all see me as a very strong, tough woman."

The star, who has suffered a tragic past as her sister committed suicide, continued: "You have an idea of who you will be in here, you know, I'll be the mother, I'll be the entertainer, I'll be this, that and the other.

"You're not the strong woman that you thought you were."

Appreciating Vernon's comforting words, she later told him: "I'll tell you, if the world isn't in love with you already, they will be in love with you. Your whole being is kind and lovely…

"I'm just having a moment. It's the realisation that you are much more vulnerable than you think you are. It might be for me that I've got to stop putting on the armour. What works on the outside world, the armour you've got out there…"

Fans of the popular competition show flocked to Twitter to praise the star on how well she's doing and share their own words of comfort despite the fact that she won't be able to see them.
