SHE’S famous for being one of the best duo ice skating dancers ever seen at the Olympics.
But how old is Dancing on Ice judge Jayne Torvill and when did she win a gold medal with Christopher Dean? We have the lowdown…
Who is Jayne Torvill and what's her background?
Jayne Torvill was born in Nottingham on October 7, 1957, which makes her 63 years old.
Despite her impressive skating achievements, Jayne recently admitted her body isn’t quite as limber as it was during her Olympic golden years.
Jayne told The Mirror: "My back does not arch as much, that’s the place that starts to hurt first with me.
“I don’t think I have arthritis yet but we have skated well into our 50s, which is unusual for any athlete.”
Jayne met Christopher Dean when they were both skating at the same ice rink as teenagers, although she had another partner at the time.
Both of their partners moved away and they joined forces.
When did Torvill and Dean win the Winter Olympic gold?
It has been over 30 years since the world’s most famous ice skating duo stunned the crowds and took home an Olympic gold.
Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean got a perfect score from the judges in 1984 on Valentine’s Day when they performed Ravel’s Bolero at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics.
They received 12 perfect scores of 6.0, with sixes from all nine judges for artistic impression – a feat which had never been seen before.
Is Jayne Torvill married?
People often think Torvill and Dean are a couple but the duo insist they only briefly snogged as teenagers and never got together.
Jayne has been married to husband Phil Christensen for the past 25 years while Christopher lives in Colorado Springs, America with his partner and former Dancing On Ice judge Karen Barber.
Despite not skating for four years, the pair are very close and talk all the time, as Chris explained: “Almost every day or every other day we speak on the phone."
