Actor D.B. Woodside used his most recent Instagram post to send a heartfelt birthday message to his enduring co-star, Tom Ellis.

The two stars portray celestial brothers Lucifer Morningstar and Amenadiel, and have developed one of the show’s strongest bonds over the course of five seasons.

Lucifer’s fifth instalment saw Lucifer take on his twin brother, Michael (also played by Tom Ellis) while Amenadiel struggles with his responsibilities as a father to baby Charlie.

Following the cataclysmic arrival of newcomer God (Dennis Haysbert), season five has taken a break after production was put on hold amid the outbreak of coronavirus earlier this year.

As devoted ‘Lucifans’ wait for the series to return, Tom Ellis spent his birthday, November 17, on the set of Lucifer’s sixth and final season.

His co-star Woodside celebrated the occasion with a heart-warming message on social media, thanking him for his work both for and away from the series.

On Instagram, he started the message: “Dear @officialtomellis, what a year it has been.

“While it would be easy to flatter you with comments about your tremendous acting or the fantastic physique you continue to build, I am most impressed by Tom the human being and all that you do to make the world a better place.”

Since starting the series in 2016, Ellis has gained over ten pounds of muscle in order to more accurately portray the show’s powerful namesake.

Off-screen, the Welsh star is also known for his generous charity work, most recently raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

In contrast to his duties as the devilish Prince of Darkness, Ellis has also spent his time spreading messages of support for diversity and inclusion.

Alongside Lucifer’s general championing of positive representation, the lead star hosts Brandon Kyle Goodman’s new podcast Black Folx on his Instagram page.

Launching after the death of George Floyd earlier this year, Ellis and Starburns Industries, the studio behind Rick and Morty, teamed with Goodman to create a platform for conversations about race in the US and worldwide.

The Amenadiel star remarked: “What you’ve created with #BlackFolx and the education it’s providing to many is both deeply important and inspiring.

He signed off: “Thanks for all that you do and I’m lucky to get to share so many days with you. Happy Birthday, you handsome devil!”

Several fans echoed Woodside’s heartfelt sentiments down in the comments.

One follower replied: “Thanks so much, because beyond the beauty and his physique and his enormous acting skills, Tom is an amazing kind and special human being!!”

D.B. Woodside’s message prompted an influx of praise for Tom Ellis, cementing him as one of the most likeable and influential TV stars of recent years.

Now his schedule is due to clear up once his tenure on Lucifer comes to an end, there’s no doubt he’ll have his pick of some sensational new projects in the coming years.
