Every month, new films and TV shows come to Netflix. April 2021 is no exception, with some original content, starring big names like Idris Elba, Sarah Paulson and Melissa McCarthy, coming out on Netflix. Express.co.uk breaks down all of the new movie releases, from documentary to classic feature favourites.

Thunder Force – releases on April 9

Melissa McCarthy and Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer star in this superhero comedy, but with a huge twist.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads: “Two childhood best friends reunite as an unlikely crime-fighting superhero duo when one invents a formula that gives ordinary people superpowers.”

The movie was written and directed by Melissa’s husband and Bridesmaids co-star, Ben Falcone.

Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute – releases on April 7

Every year the charity wing of The Recording Academy, which awards the Grammys each year, chooses someone to be honoured for their charitable contributions.

In 2019, it was Dolly Parton, and on February 8 that year performers, including Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Garth Brooks and Dolly herself, took to the stage to celebrate the Queen of Country.

While many of those events go unseen, Dolly fans can now watch the tribute on Netflix. It’ll be the first time ever that a MusiCares concert is released on the platform.

Run – out on Netflix now

Sarah Paulson stars in suspense thriller Run, which was released in the USA on Hulu back in November 2020.

Netflix is hosting its international release, and the film follows teenager Chloe Sherman (played by Kiera Allen), who tries to escape her obsessive mother (Sarah Paulson) after she learns some terrible secrets.

The film is the second suspense thriller to star and centre around a wheelchair user.

A Star is Born – releases on April 11

This is not a new movie, but it’s still a fan favourite after it came out in 2018.

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper star in the remake of a classic movie, which shows the ups and downs of a couple in differing stages of their careers.

However, their love is not strong enough to break patterns of addiction and low self-esteem as tensions rise and fall amidst their changing lives.
